Hollywood Star Brad Pitt Purchases Unique Futuristic Capsule House Previously Displayed in Spain’s Girona Province

¿Por qué Brad Pitt necesitaba una casa de 45 metros de España?

Brad Pitt has expanded his collection of architectural masterpieces by acquiring an experimental house from the 1960s. The unique capsule structure, restored and exhibited in Catalonia, was secretly dismantled and shipped to California. Discover the story behind this rare property and its new celebrity owner.

Hollywood actor Brad Pitt, known for his passion for architecture, has acquired a rare prefab house that was until recently located in Spain. The building is an experimental, futuristic structure measuring just 45 square meters, which was relocated to California after purchase.

This unique residential module, known as Casa Xasteros, was designed in 1968 by Greek architect Nikolaos Xasteros. The structure is an oval capsule with no corners, made from fiberglass. In the 1960s, it was conceived as an innovative solution for countryside retreats—a lightweight, mobile house that could be installed almost anywhere. However, the project never gained mass popularity, and only a few such houses remain in the world.

The particular house acquired by the actor has an unusual history. It was discovered in the municipality of Kalivia, near Athens, and then transported to a shipyard in the Catalan town of L’Escala for restoration. Once restored, the object was exhibited at the Terra Remota winery in the province of Girona, a place known for its combination of organic viticulture and experimental architecture.

The transaction was confirmed by French designer Clément Cividino, who oversaw the restoration work. According to him, the transfer of the house to its new owner took place in 2024 under strict confidentiality. For transport to the United States, the structure was completely disassembled and packed into two shipping containers. Despite its compact size, the house includes a living room, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom.

Clément Cividino noted that only eight such houses exist worldwide, four of which are in poor condition, while the remaining four belong to him. After the Xasteros House was shipped to California, its spot at the winery was taken by another rare exhibit from the designer’s collection—a 1947 tropical house designed by Fernand Filleau.

This purchase further confirms Brad Pitt’s reputation as a connoisseur of extraordinary architecture. The actor previously acquired a historic mansion on a cliff in California. Now, his personal collection has gained a mid-20th-century modernist gem, which, thanks to its new owner, has achieved worldwide fame and was saved from oblivion.
