The Indonesian Grand Prix in the 2025 MotoGP season was marked by a series of unexpected events that significantly changed the balance of power in the overall standings. On the very first lap of the main race, tensions at the Mandalika circuit reached a boiling point: Marco Bezzecchi, known for his aggressive style, made a mistake and triggered a crash that left Marc Márquez with a serious injury. For the nine-time world champion, it was his first long race retirement since the Austin round, and if short sprints are included, his third this season. The exact extent of his injuries is still unclear, but the consequences of the incident were substantial.
As a result of the incident, only two of the four championship leaders remained on the track. Francesco Bagnaia once again met with misfortune: after a disastrous sprint, where he finished last with a significant gap, the Italian also failed to avoid a crash in the main race and retired early, trailing even less experienced rivals.
The winner of the round was Fermín Aldeguer from Gresini Racing. The young Spaniard from La Ñora confidently pulled away after the start and let no one close the gap, securing his first victory in the premier class. This success made him the second youngest rider ever to win a MotoGP round. Another Murcia native, Pedro Acosta, finished second, while Álex Márquez rounded out the top three.
For Alex Marquez, this podium was particularly valuable in the race for second place in the overall standings. Over the weekend, he scored 22 points, allowing him to significantly widen the gap to Francesco Bagnaia, who remains his main rival for the season’s silver. Marc Marquez now has 545 points, Alex has 362, Bagnaia has 274, and Bezzecchi has 254. Thus, Alex leads Bagnaia by 88 points, and his closest pursuer on Aprilia by 108.
The Indonesian round proved to be a turning point for many championship contenders. Spanish riders once again demonstrated their high level of preparation, and the battle for the podium remains intense going into the final stages of the season.
