In September 2025, the Spanish passenger car market once again showed positive momentum. During the month, 85,167 new vehicles were sold, 16.4% more than in the same period last year. For the first time in recent years, this result surpassed pre-pandemic sales volumes: in September 2019, 81,746 cars were sold.
Since the beginning of the year, a total of 854,658 new passenger vehicles have been registered in the country. This is 14.8% higher than in the first nine months of last year. At this pace, the year-end forecast remains positive: sales are expected to exceed 1.1 million vehicles.
However, despite this notable growth, the total volume of sales from January to September is still 11.5% below the same period in 2019. This shows that the market has not yet fully recovered from the pandemic-driven crisis.
An analysis of sales by channel shows that both private buyers and corporate clients increased their purchases. Individuals accounted for 45,566 vehicles, a 24.4% increase year-on-year. The corporate segment also grew by 14.8%, reaching 36,441 units. Meanwhile, the car rental sector saw a decline: sales dropped by 33.8% to 3,160 vehicles.
The light commercial vehicle market is also showing steady growth. In September, 15,161 new vehicles of this type were registered, an 18.2% increase compared to last year. Over the first nine months of 2025, sales reached 138,242 units, up 13.2%. Growth is particularly notable in the corporate segment, where sales rose by 23.2%, totaling 11,369 vehicles. A slight but stable increase was also observed among individual entrepreneurs and small businesses.
The segment of industrial vehicles, buses, and minibuses is also continuing to gain momentum. In September, 3,572 units were sold, up 18.2% from a year earlier. However, for the year to date, this segment still lags behind last year’s figures by 7.7%. Within the industrial vehicle category, a growth of 22.8% was recorded (2,745 new registrations), while buses and coaches increased sales by 4.9% (827 units).
Industry experts note that September became the first month since the pandemic when overall sales volumes exceeded 2019 levels. This success is attributed to the active promotion of new models, including electrified ones, as well as the efforts of dealers and manufacturers to stimulate demand. Non-rechargeable hybrid vehicles remain the most popular powertrain type, outpacing their gasoline counterparts.
