In August 2025, the electric vehicle market in Spain showed significant growth. The Tesla Model 3 once again led electric car sales, reaching 1,146 units sold. This figure is nearly six times higher than last year’s numbers and gives the model a 16.3% share of total electric vehicle sales for the month.
Second place went to the Kia EV3, which firmly secured its position in the rankings with 476 cars sold. The third spot was taken by the BYD Dolphin Surf — after just four months on the Spanish market, this model achieved 451 sales in August alone. The top ten most popular electric vehicles also included the Toyota BZ4X (358 units), Renault 5 (320), BYD Atto 2 (308), Tesla Model Y (288), Mini Mini (286), Dacia Spring (188), and Skoda Elroq (177).
Special attention was drawn to the performance of the Tesla Model Y. In August, sales of this model dropped by 20.4% compared to the same period last year, resulting in the loss of the second spot in the overall electric vehicle rankings from January to August. Now, the second place is held by the Kia EV3, which sold 3,682 units in eight months. Tesla Model 3 remains the leader with 5,691 cars sold, up 14.6% from last year. The year’s top five also included Renault 5 (3,017) and Toyota BZ4X (2,270).
Overall, Tesla sales in Spain in August increased by 161%, reaching 1,435 registered vehicles. In the first eight months of 2025, the company sold 9,303 cars, 11.6% more than last year’s figures. The brand’s financial results also improved: profit for 2024 amounted to 6.98 million euros, 15.3% up from a year earlier, with total sales reaching 16,675 vehicles.
Chinese manufacturer BYD continues to rapidly expand its presence in the Spanish market. In August, the brand’s sales increased more than fivefold, reaching 1,827 vehicles. Over the first eight months of 2025, BYD sold 14,181 electric vehicles, which is 675.3% more compared to the same period last year.
In the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) market, the MG EHS became the leader for the first time in August. This model sold 919 units, capturing 11.6% of the market. The Toyota RAV4 dropped to second place with 660 sales, while the Jaecoo 7, which was recently introduced to Spain, took third with 567 vehicles sold. Rounding out the top five were the Toyota C-HR (540) and BYD Seal U (506).
By the end of the first eight months of 2025, the BYD Seal U remains the leader among hybrids with 6,154 vehicles sold. Close behind is the Toyota C-HR with 6,141 sales. Thanks to a successful August, the MG EHS climbed to third place (4,739), ahead of the Ford Kuga (4,379). Completing the top five is the Mercedes GLC with 3,633 units sold.
The top ten plug-in hybrids also includes the Jaecoo 7 (3,564), Toyota RAV4 (3,417), Cupra Formentor (2,554), Hyundai Tucson (2,198), and Cupra Terramar (2,097). The last two vehicles are manufactured in Spain, highlighting the growing role of local factories in the electrified model segment.
Thus, the electric and hybrid vehicle market in Spain continues to demonstrate strong growth, while competition among leading manufacturers is becoming increasingly intense. In the coming months, further sales growth and the arrival of new models are expected, which could alter the market landscape.
