The Basque Country (Euskadi) is an autonomous community in northeastern Spain, bordering France. While the political situation in the Basque Country was tense in the past, it has stabilized in recent years following the end of violence by the separatist terrorist group ETA.
The Basque Country or Euskal Herria is a region in northern Spain on the border with France, known for its traditions, language, and culture that set it apart from the rest of Spain. The region’s unique language—Basque—has no relation to other European languages. Basque culture has a rich history and traditions that stem from a mythical past, with local legends recounting the heroic deeds of the Basques in their fight for independence.
