BMW has officially announced the launch of the new generation iX3 electric SUV, which will be the first vehicle based on the Neue Klasse platform. The model features a completely redesigned exterior, advanced technological solutions, and an extended range.
Production of the new model will begin in autumn 2025 at a new plant in Debrecen, Hungary. Sales in Europe will start in spring 2026, followed by a release in the US market. A separate version adapted to local preferences will be created for China, highlighting the global nature of the model.
The main highlight of the iX3 is its sixth-generation battery system, which provides a range of up to 805 kilometers according to the WLTP standard. The battery capacity is 108.7 kWh, and the design reduces weight and increases efficiency. The 800-volt electric architecture supports ultra-fast charging: up to 372 kilometers of range can be added in 10 minutes, and the charge level goes from 10 to 80% in just 21 minutes.
For the first time in the brand’s history, the car features bidirectional charging, allowing it to be used as a power source for a home or external devices. Owners are offered various charging solutions, including home stations and integration with solar panels.
The exterior design of the iX3 embodies BMW’s new design approach: clean lines, large surfaces, and the iconic vertical kidney grilles at the front. The body length measures 4.78 meters, while horizontal light elements have replaced traditional chrome accents. Improved aerodynamics have resulted in a drag coefficient of 0.24.
The interior features a minimalist style, focusing on spaciousness and modern technologies. Recycled materials are used in the trim, and various personalization options are available. A “floating” instrument cluster takes center stage, and the quality of the finish is in line with the premium segment.
Inside, the car introduces BMW’s new Panoramic iDrive digital ecosystem. Information is projected across the entire width of the windshield via the Panoramic Vision system, as well as on a central 17.9-inch display. Controls are managed via touch panels, voice commands, and artificial intelligence, allowing users to configure personalized scenarios.
The BMW Assistant now offers enhanced features, including support for advanced language models that make system interaction more natural. Access to the vehicle is available through a smartphone or smartwatch with UWB technology, ensuring high-precision recognition.
Despite the introduction of new technologies, the manufacturer emphasizes that the signature driving dynamics have been preserved. The Heart of Joy electronic system ensures precise power distribution, braking, and energy recuperation. The powertrain delivers 469 hp, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, and the top speed is limited to 210 km/h.
Significant attention has been paid to environmental concerns: about one-third of the materials used in the construction are recycled, including plastic and aluminum. According to the company, the new crossover reduces its carbon footprint by 34% compared to the previous version.
With the launch of the iX3, BMW is turning a new page in the development of electric vehicles, combining high range, fast charging technologies, modern design, and digital solutions.
