DS Automobiles chose Portugal for the global debut of its new premium compact car. Near the city of Porto, journalists had the opportunity to test drive two of the most intriguing versions: the all-electric E-Tense and the hybrid model. Both variants are united by a focus on maximum comfort and individuality.
The exterior of the DS Nº 4 immediately draws attention. The front of the car features a horizontal black grille and the signature DS Matrix LED Vision lights, available in higher trims. The body length is 4.4 meters, and the sloping roofline gives the silhouette a dynamic look. Large alloy wheels up to 20 inches emphasize the sporty character of the model. The rear lights, with laser engraving and DS Automobiles lettering, complete the appearance, giving the car a distinctive and elegant feel.
The interior of the DS Nº 4 is crafted with particular attention to detail. Premium materials are used inside: Marrón Criollo Nappa leather, ash wood inserts, and the signature ‘point perle’ decorative stitching. Depending on the trim (Pallas, Étoile, or the exclusive Jules Verne), the finishing varies, but in all cases there is a high level of quality and attention to design.
Behind the wheel, the car stands out for its smooth ride. The suspension gently absorbs bumps, and the sound insulation keeps the cabin quiet. The electric E-Tense version offers instant throttle response, especially noticeable in city driving. Driving characteristics are well balanced: the model combines agility with stability on the highway. The only drawback is the limited headroom in the rear seats due to the sloping roof, but adults still have adequate space, and the trunk remains practical for everyday needs.
The engine lineup includes three electrified versions. The 145 hp hybrid features a self-charging system and is awarded the Eco environmental label. The plug-in hybrid generates 225 hp, can travel up to 81 km on electric power under the WLTP cycle, and carries the Cero badge. The E-Tense electric model delivers 213 hp, comes with a 58.3 kWh battery, and provides a range of up to 450 km, also receiving the Cero emisiones status.
All versions of the vehicle retain DS’s signature style: calm, sophistication, and confidence on the road. Among the technological innovations is the DS Iris multimedia system with artificial intelligence integration, expanding the infotainment system’s capabilities. The DS Serenity warranty covers eight years or 160,000 kilometers, including the electric drive and multimedia systems.
In Spain, the price of the DS Nº 4 Hybrid Pallas starts at €38,600. The plug-in hybrid Étoile with a Nappa leather interior is priced at €51,900. The electric E-Tense Pallas version is available from €45,400.
