End of a Decade: Google Changes Its Startup Support Format
Ten years after opening, Google has announced that it will close the physical space Campus Madrid. The decision will take effect at the end of 2025, marking the end of an important era for Spain’s tech community. The company is shifting to a new strategy, focusing on international expansion and integrating artificial intelligence into the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
From Local Hub to Global Network
Campus Madrid opened in 2015 in a renovated industrial building in the Arganzuela district in southern Madrid. Over the years, it became a meeting point for entrepreneurs, investors, and mentors. More than 700 Spanish startups took part in Google’s programs, attracted over €2.6 billion in investment, and created more than 8,700 jobs. The pandemic accelerated the shift toward a hybrid and digital model, allowing the community to expand beyond its physical facilities. Company representatives note that this step has helped scale up the community and better meet the changing needs of startup founders.
Focus on Artificial Intelligence and International Initiatives
In its new phase of development, Google for Startups will focus on global programs related to the implementation of artificial intelligence. Among them are Google for Startups Gemini Kit, Gemini API Sprints, and Gemini Founders Forum, which will take place in Madrid on December 10 with the participation of startup leaders and experts from Google and DeepMind. Educational and acceleration initiatives such as Academies & Accelerators and Startup School: Gen AI will also be strengthened. The goal is to foster Spain’s leadership in the field of artificial intelligence. The company emphasizes that the value of Campus Madrid was not in the building itself, but in bringing together people committed to joint development and knowledge sharing.
A symbol of change for Madrid’s tech community
The closure of the space in Arganzuela marks the end of an era for one of the city’s most prominent technology hubs. At the same time, a new stage is beginning, where collaboration and innovation extend beyond geography. Google will continue to support entrepreneurs, focusing on the growth of a global community and cutting-edge technologies.
