In recent months, more and more auto mechanics in Spain have been using social networks to educate drivers. They publish videos explaining how to avoid breakdowns and keep vehicles in good condition. One such specialist is Leo from the @talleresiauto workshop, located in the Vicálvaro district of Madrid.
Recently, Leo posted a video on TikTok where he explained in detail which car components should be checked before a long trip. He first highlights the condition of the tires. The expert advises checking the pressure according to the information on the special label on the side of the car or inside the fuel tank lid. It is also important to assess the tread depth—if it is worn down, the tires need to be replaced.
The next step is checking the engine oil level. To do this, simply remove the dipstick and make sure the oil is within the recommended range. After that, Leo recommends checking the coolant level. If it’s low, he notes that it’s better to top it up with plain water than to drive with an empty tank, though this should only be a temporary solution.
The expert also reminds drivers to keep an eye on the windshield washer fluid level. He stresses that only special fluids should be used, as plain water can cause buildup and clog the system. It is also important to make sure that all lights and turn signals are functioning properly.
For those who prefer to make their own windshield washer fluid, Leo shares a simple recipe. Drivers usually mix two parts water with one part glass cleaner, or add a little concentrated dish soap. A few drops of detergent boost the cleaning effect. However, using only water is not recommended—it can eventually lead to scale buildup and clogs.
Overall, regularly checking these components helps avoid unpleasant surprises on the road and extends the car’s lifespan. Tips from Madrid specialists are becoming increasingly popular among Spanish motorists, contributing to a higher standard of personal vehicle maintenance.
