In Spain, more and more drivers are paying attention to specialist advice to avoid costly breakdowns. One of the country’s most renowned mechanics, Juan José Ebenezer, has gained fame on social media for his practical car maintenance tips.
The expert emphasizes that regular maintenance and attention to detail can significantly reduce the risk of serious malfunctions. He pays particular attention to the vehicle’s steering system in his advice. According to Ebenezer, many drivers make a common mistake by trying to turn the wheels while the car is stationary, for example, when leaving a parking spot. This habit puts unnecessary strain on the steering mechanism and can accelerate component wear.
The mechanic recommends slightly moving the car forward or backward before starting a maneuver. This reduces friction between the tires and the road surface and lessens the strain on the steering system. This approach has long been used by truck drivers to prevent premature breakdowns.
Among the most common steering problems, several stand out. First, if the steering wheel becomes stiff and hard to turn, the cause could be a low power steering fluid level, often due to leaks. Second, free play in the steering wheel is usually related to worn joints or the steering rack itself. The third issue is loud noises when turning the wheel, which may result from worn bushings or a lack of lubrication. Finally, if the driver feels vibrations, this may indicate improper wheel alignment.
Proper wheel alignment in relation to the suspension and steering system is an important part of maintenance. The procedure requires that the tires be parallel to each other and in the optimal position relative to the road surface. This not only extends tire life, but also ensures safety on the road.
