Maricarmen left her Madrid home on a stretcher and was taken to a Samur ambulance after officials carried out the eviction this Wednesday. The 87-year-old woman had lived in the property for 70 years. Samur medical staff accompanied her as supporters shouted from behind a police cordon. RTVE also reported that Maricarmen has a disability, adding a social and rights dimension to the case.
The judicial commission responsible for enforcing the order reached the final stage of the case at the apartment on calle Alcalde Sáinz de Baranda. At 13:00, Maricarmen was taken to the ambulance on a stretcher as dozens of people watched from outside. EFE confirmed that the commission carried out the eviction and that she was later taken away in a Samur vehicle. Reports by EFE and Heraldo said this was the fourth attempt to remove her from the property.
The stretcher became the defining image of the eviction. Police kept those present several metres from the entrance. From there, they voiced their support for Maricarmen as the judicial commission completed the eviction. Reports by elDiario.es and other Spanish media said neighbours kept watch overnight. A larger group later gathered outside the building, with activists and residents trying to stop the order from being enforced. No statements from Maricarmen herself were included in the reports, nor were comments from the commission or property owner.
The property had been Maricarmen’s home for seven decades. She left under medical supervision and was taken to an ambulance. Telemadrid reported that ownership passed to the investment company Urbagestión in 2018. The dispute concerned a rental agreement originally signed by Maricarmen’s father, which the court viewed as not transferable to her. Cadena SER reported that the requested rent was about 1,650 euros, compared with the roughly 500 euros she had previously paid.
The scene differed from the parliamentary incident described in an earlier report. In Madrid, the central event was the removal of a resident from her long-term home, with Samur personnel present as she was taken away.
No further destination or medical condition was reported. Infobae, citing Europa Press, reported that the Delegación del Gobierno said the police operation followed a judicial mandate and that it opposed the eviction.
