A man whose Barcelona murder case was archived is now in provisional prison over a fatal shooting in Carballo. His family says he was in Madrid; investigators point to bank records and a vehicle trail.
At 19:34 on the night of the Carballo shooting, J.V.J.’s wife says, she began a video call with him in Madrid. It started about half an hour before the alleged gunmen reached the scene. J.V.J. is now in provisional prison, accused of involvement in the fatal shooting at a local venue on 4 December 2024. The Guardia Civil is investigating the killing. J.V.J. and his alleged associate J.H.S. are both being held in provisional custody.
That timing is central to the family’s alibi.
A screenshot from the call shows J.V.J. against a blurred background, with what appear to be trees. His wife says she had arranged an Uber to take him to her home. The Guardia Civil has assembled separate evidence linking him to the area, including records concerning a bank card and a car.
The case has a history in Barcelona. J.V.J., a 30-year-old Dominican man, had been investigated over the shooting death of a bar owner in the city’s Poble Sec district on Christmas Eve 2023. Security video showed the gunman beside a cigarette machine, but his height did not match the figure in the footage. The judge archived the case.
In April 2025, just after J.V.J. was ordered released from provisional custody in that proceeding, police arrested him over the Carballo killing, according to sources in the investigation. The Catalan police force Mossos d’Esquadra passed information about him to the Guardia Civil because of his earlier connection to the Poble Sec investigation.
The Guardia Civil says a bank card in J.V.J.’s name was used to pay a toll in Arteixo, near Carballo, on 27 November 2024, seven days before the killing. The car belonged to one of his flatmates. It was detected in Carballo the next day, then the trail went cold until 25 December, when it apparently returned to Madrid. Investigators say it may have been kept in a garage or another concealed location after the shooting. J.V.J.’s family says he was in the area for an unrelated reason and flew back to Madrid the following day.
His relatives have also provided a record of a cash deposit made at 23:12 on the night of the killing. They say it places him in Madrid. The card used for the transaction is linked to an account held by J.V.J., according to the judicial investigation. Banco Santander confirmed that the ATM was at a branch in Villa de Vallecas.
The Guardia Civil also cites Instagram posts naming J.V.J. and his friend J.H.S. as the killers. Both were arrested and are in provisional prison in connection with the case. Their families dispute the posts, saying they reflect hostility within the gang rather than reliable evidence.
Investigators say J.V.J. had links to the alleged Spanish leader of the Dominican criminal group 50-0 Bloke 14. His relatives acknowledge that the leader sometimes visited his home, but deny that they lived together or were close friends. The victim was a Dominican national and, according to information in the investigation, was suspected of having links to drug trafficking. The victim’s mother said her son had received threats from the group in the Dominican Republic, according to legal sources.
J.V.J.’s wife is asking the court to order a reconstruction of the Carballo shooting, as was done in the Barcelona case. A Guardia Civil report dated 6 October 2025 estimated that the two gunmen in Galicia were 1.84 and 1.80 metres tall. A prison document dated 4 February 2026 gives J.V.J.’s height as 1.78 metres and J.H.S.’s as 1.72. The judge has yet to decide whether to order the reconstruction. Both men remain suspects, and the allegations have not been established by a final court judgment.
