Alejandro Davidovich beat Ethan Quinn 7-6(4), 6-3 in the final of the 2026 Mallorca Championships at Santa Ponça, securing his first career grass-court title and making Spanish tennis history. The Fuengirola native sealed the straight-sets win with a decisive ace. It was his first ATP Tour title, achieved in his sixth tour-level final after defeats in each of his previous five, including the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters final against Stefanos Tsitsipas. The victory also made Davidovich the tournament’s first Spanish champion.
Davidovich joins a group of Spanish grass-court champions that includes Andrés Gimeno and Rafael Nadal, David Ferrer and Feliciano López, as well as Roberto Bautista and Carlos Alcaraz. The Mallorca Championships is an ATP 250 event that began in 2021, with Daniil Medvedev as its inaugural champion. The breakthrough came after a difficult run in finals: ATP Tour coverage noted that Davidovich finally converted in his sixth tour-level appearance in a title match. He lost four finals last year alone, making the end of that streak especially impressive.
With little time to celebrate, Davidovich is set to travel to London for a scheduled training session on Sunday at 13:00, ahead of his debut at the next tournament. The draw places him in the top half alongside Jannik Sinner, with his opening match against Argentina’s Juan Manuel Cerúndolo set for Monday, June 29, in the third round of play. Davidovich is now the third Spanish player to secure a title this season, following Carlos Alcaraz’s wins at the Australian Open and in Doha, while Rafa Jódar won in Marrakech.
Davidovich’s coaching partnership with Pepo Clavet has already produced results during the grass-court swing. Under Clavet’s guidance, Davidovich reached the quarterfinals at Queen’s before winning in Mallorca. Their collaboration is expected to continue, with plans to compete together at the upcoming Masters 1000 events in Canada and Cincinnati. Experienced coaching has also featured in other sports, including MotoGP, where Jorge Martín’s pole position at Assen highlighted the value of strategic support.
The Mallorca title proved to be the opening key stage in a broader 2026 resurgence. Davidovich later won the Chengdu Open on hard court, adding a second ATP 250 trophy, and went on to claim the Shanghai Masters title in October. In the Shanghai final on October 18, he defeated fellow Spaniard Rafael Jódar 1-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 for the biggest title of his career. That brought his season total to three titles, spanning grass and hard court, with a Masters 1000 crown at Shanghai. After five lost finals, Davidovich had converted three title opportunities in one season.
Since the start of the Open Era in 1968, Spanish players have collected 17 grass-court titles. Held annually since 2021, the Mallorca Championships has quickly become a basic stop for players preparing for Wimbledon. Davidovich’s win ended his personal drought and gave him his first grass title, reinforcing Spain’s presence in a sport where the country is traditionally strongest on clay.
