Maricarmen Abascal was evicted from her Madrid flat on 23 September 2026, after living there for around 70 to 71 years. Eva Amaral and Juan Aguirre later shared two songs for the 87-year-old woman, who died on 7 October after 14 days in hospital.
The message accompanying the performances was direct: «Pain and rage. Rest in peace, Maricarmen». It captured the human cost of removing an elderly woman from the home where she had spent most of her life.
Amaral chose an acoustic version of 'En el centro de un tornado', a song from the band's latest album 'Dolce vita'. Emotion was evident in her voice as she sang: «And I only want a moment of peace, for the world to stop. Before I disappear».
Amaral also shared a second song, but its title and lyrics were not provided. The performances turned the music into a public memorial for an elderly woman whose housing ordeal ended with her death.
The tribute followed a campaign that had brought the case national attention. RTVE reported that Maricarmen had become a symbol of the fight against evictions and for stronger tenant protection. The Sindicato de Inquilinas and other activists supported her story.
After the eviction, Maricarmen was taken to Gregorio Marañón Hospital. She died on 7 October, aged 87, after 14 days in hospital. COPE and other Spanish outlets reported the sequence of events. Her medical cause of death has not been publicly disclosed, so the eviction cannot be described as its direct medical cause.
