More than 29,000 people are registered for the 61st Behobia-San Sebastián race. Restrictions begin at 06:30 on Sunday, 8 November, and continue until the event ends, affecting roads between Behobia (Irun) and Donostia. The race has a maximum quota of 30,000 participants; 29,301 people have the right to take part. Its 20.196-kilometre route, unchanged from the 2024 and 2025 editions, runs from Behobia to Alameda del Boulevard. Club Deportivo Fortuna organizes the race.
Irun is likely to see the first disruption. The AP-8 exit ramp at kilometre 0 towards Bilbao will close, with possible queues near the border towards France. The AP-8 exit at kilometre 0 towards France could also be affected as cars and shuttle buses head for the Irun-Zaisa area. A separate motorway measure begins at 14:00 on Saturday and runs until 14:00 on Sunday: traffic travelling towards Behobia will be diverted onto the carriageway normally used towards Bilbao.
On the N-121-A, heavy vehicles will be barred from 08:00 to 11:30 while runners set off. An Ertzaintza patrol will turn them around at the Puntxas roundabout, at kilometre 75. Cars travelling towards Irun will be diverted through Zaisa before joining the AP-8 towards Bilbao.

In Errenteria, Avenida de Navarra between the Santa Clara and Galicia roundabouts will be closed from 09:00 to 14:30. Parking is prohibited along the section, and vehicles already parked on the avenue cannot be moved during the closure. Residents of Lartzabal and Fanderia should leave via the GI-2132. To reach Fanderia, drivers will be routed through Tomás López and the Santa Clara roundabout, where half the roundabout is reserved for the race.
In Donostia, access to the Boulevard from Legazpi and Peñaflorida will be closed from 05:00 to 17:00. Private vehicles cannot reach the Boulevard from Avenida de la Libertad until the race ends, except those belonging to residents. From about 09:30 to 15:00, the centrebound lanes of Alcalde Elósegui, Ategorrieta, Navarra, Zurriola and Boulevard are scheduled to close, while outbound traffic is expected to remain unaffected. Zurriola is also due to close briefly from around 08:30 to 09:00 for installation of race arches. It will close again when the race passes at about 09:30, and remain shut until dismantling is completed around 15:15.
The route crosses Gaintxurizketa around kilometre 7 and Alto de Miracruz around kilometre 16 before descending through Ategorrieta and Avenida de Navarra towards Zurriola, the Kursaal and the Boulevard finish. Wheelchair and handbike starts are scheduled for 09:30, skaters for 09:35, elite women for 09:55 and general runner waves from 10:00. Donostia’s bus operator Dbus has announced route and stop changes from approximately 07:00 to 17:00.
These temporary measures apply to race-day traffic. A separate transport development in Barcelona involved a Diagonal tram tender.
The Basque Government advises people travelling through the area to use alternative routes and follow instructions from the Ertzaintza and Policía Municipal. Participants are encouraged to use public transport to reach the start. Anyone caught in a queue on the AP-8 must remain in their vehicle; pedestrians are prohibited on the motorway.
Parking will not be allowed in the Zaisa industrial estate. Drivers may stop there only to drop off runners, then must continue their journey. Participants arriving from France on the A-63 are advised to take the Biriatou exit, drive to Behobia and walk to the start area.
People walking the course independently are warned to stay off the road, especially at night. If they must walk, they should use the shoulder, wear visible or reflective items, keep as far from traffic as possible and face oncoming vehicles.
