Spain’s Ministry of Culture has launched the fifth Bono Cultural Joven, offering €400 to those turning 18 in 2026. This year, the program includes musical instruments, art supplies, and cultural workshops among eligible expenses.
Young people across Spain who will turn 18 in 2026 can now apply for the Bono Cultural Joven 2026, a €400 grant designed to encourage cultural participation. The Ministry of Culture has opened the application window for this fifth edition, with submissions accepted until October 31. According to official figures, 561,459 individuals born in 2008 are eligible for the program.
This year’s Bono Cultural Joven introduces significant changes. For the first time, recipients can use the funds not only for books, concerts, and digital subscriptions, but also for purchasing musical instruments, art materials, and enrolling in cultural courses. The Ministry aims to support both cultural consumption and creative development among young adults.
How to Apply
Applications must be submitted through the official Bono Cultural Joven website before the October 31 deadline. Applicants need to verify their identity using the Cl@ve system—either with a basic registration (available via video call), an advanced registration (in person), or a digital certificate. For those under 18 at the time of application, in-person registration is especially relevant.
It is possible to apply personally or through an adult representative. In the latter case, a signed representation form—available on the program’s website—must be provided. The Ministry notes that a family book is not accepted as proof of representation.
What the Grant Covers
The 2026 edition offers two ways to use the €400. Recipients can either spend the entire amount in a single category—such as cultural courses, musical instruments, or art materials—or divide it across three blocks:
- Up to €200 for live arts, audiovisual events, heritage visits, in-person courses, instruments, sheet music, cameras, creative software, and other artistic materials.
- Up to €100 for physical cultural products, including books, magazines, newspapers, video games, vinyl records, or CDs.
- Up to €100 for digital content, such as subscriptions to music and video platforms, e-books, audiobooks, digital newspapers, or online cultural courses.
By broadening the eligible categories, the Ministry hopes to make the grant more relevant for young people interested in both experiencing and creating culture.
Who Can Apply and How the Grant Is Used
The Bono Cultural Joven is open to those turning 18 in 2026 who are Spanish nationals, legal residents, asylum seekers, temporary displaced persons, or former unaccompanied foreign minors. Once approved, recipients have one year to spend the €400 at participating venues and businesses. Currently, around 4,000 cultural establishments across Spain are part of the program. The grant is provided as a prepaid card, which can be used virtually via smartphone or received as a physical card by mail.
To ensure the program reaches those who need it most, the Ministry of Culture is working with the Plataforma del Tercer Sector to promote the initiative among vulnerable youth.
