Isaac del Toro became the main protagonist of the seventh stage of the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, where the battle for the yellow jersey intensified sharply. On the challenging Grand Colombier climb, the Mexican launched a decisive attack and finished solo, reducing his gap in the overall standings. For Paul Seixas, the day turned into a major setback: the Frenchman was involved in a crash and lost contact with the leaders, which effectively ended his chances of an overall victory.
From the very start of the stage, tension was felt throughout the peloton. Already in the neutral zone, three riders, including Daniel Felipe Martínez, crashed onto the asphalt. Soon after, on the descent from Côte de Saint-Maurice-de-Rotherens, organizers were forced to temporarily halt the race due to a dangerous gravel section. After racing resumed, the situation worsened for Seixas: his fall forced his team to wait and help him return to the main group, which by then had pulled almost four minutes ahead.
Meanwhile, in the group of favorites, attacks were constant. Carlos Rodríguez tried to break away, but without success. The Decathlon team gradually closed Seixas’s gap, but on the very first meters of the Grand Colombier climb, the Frenchman could not hold the pace and definitively dropped out of the fight for leadership. Lidl-Trek took the initiative, and Juan Ayuso attempted an attack, leaving behind Ben Tulett and other rivals.
The key moment came with 4.5 kilometers to go: Isaac del Toro made a powerful move, caught up with Ayuso, and immediately surged ahead. None of his competitors were able to respond.
