Two People Killed in Residential Building Fire in Magaluf. A fire broke out overnight in a residential building in Magaluf. Two people died and one more is in serious condition. Authorities have evacuated all residents and launched an investigation into the causes.
During the night on Wednesday in Magaluf, municipality of Calvià on Mallorca, a serious fire broke out in the Trianon residential building. According to official reports, two people died as a result and another resident is in critical condition at Son Espases Hospital in Palma. In total, about twenty people were affected by the fire; all of them were evacuated by emergency services.
The fire started around five in the morning on the building’s third floor, which is equivalent to the basement level in relation to the street. The causes of the fire have not yet been determined — specialists from the fire service and police are investigating. Several teams of firefighters and medics were working at the scene, along with police officers who cordoned off the area and began questioning witnesses.
According to Calvià mayor Juan Antonio Amengual, the situation worsened when some residents tried to leave their apartments via the stairwell instead of staying on their balconies as rescuers advised. This may have influenced the course of events and the number of victims. All residents of the building, which houses both owners and tenants, had to leave their apartments. Authorities have already sent social workers to the site to assess the need for temporary housing.
Fires in residential buildings in the Balearic Islands are rare, but such incidents highlight the importance of quick response by emergency services and adherence to evacuation instructions. Safety concerns and access to medical assistance in emergencies remain pressing issues for the region.
