More than 330 exhibitors from 22 countries will gather in Barcelona from 6 to 8 October. AI, automation, safer ingredients and waste-cutting systems will share the floor.

From 6 to 8 October, more than 330 companies from 22 countries will present equipment and ingredients at Alimentaria FoodTech 2026 in Barcelona. Artificial intelligence will move onto the factory floor. The event will focus on tools that can improve food and drink production while protecting quality and safety.

International exhibitors make up 26% of the total. The fair will cover nearly 15,000 square metres at the Gran Via venue of Fira de Barcelona. More than 140 experts and 38 startups are also expected, according to Fira de Barcelona and related industry coverage.

The Gran Via venue is located in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, alongside Barcelona, where Alimentaria FoodTech 2026 will take place from 6 to 8 October.

The line matters.

Exhibitors will focus on production equipment rather than conference language. Cold high-pressure systems will target longer shelf life. Artificial vision and AI tools will look for contaminants and defects. Sensors will aim to cut product losses and water use.

Those systems address the main demands facing factories: automation, digitalisation, food safety, ingredient development and sustainability. Industry announcements describe the fair as a showcase for industrial food-chain technology, not consumer products.

Established suppliers on the programme include MIMASA, Dordal, Handtmann, Weber, Vaessen Schoemaker, Hiperbaric, ULMA, Tetra Pak, Roser Group, CSB System, Brenntag, Jarvis, Midera, Sick, Impag Iberia and Bizerba. Kersia has also publicly confirmed its participation. Their equipment, software, sensors and raw materials give the fair a clear industrial focus.

Industry announcements indicate that the business programme may include more than 60 talks, round tables and related events, alongside a buyer programme aimed at international purchasers. That format reinforces the fair’s role as a business meeting for evaluating production technologies and suppliers.

Food manufacturers must raise efficiency while controlling safety risks, resource use and avoidable losses. Alimentaria FoodTech will bring those demands into one programme. Visitors will be able to assess automation, AI and ingredient technology through equipment and applications.

An earlier report examined the fair's technology focus and the role of AI in Spanish food factories through an earlier report. The 2026 edition adds conservation technology, sensors and ingredients to that industrial picture.

Startups will have a separate place in the programme. Thirty-eight companies will join the established suppliers. The fair will also stage the FoodTech Awards Innova and the FoodTech Awards Emprende. A new prize, the FoodTech Award al Mérito Científico 2026, will recognise initiatives and experts developing advanced technologies or ingredients for food production, processing or conservation.

The focus is practical. The event will bring factory systems, safety controls, water-saving sensors, ingredients and scientific development into one venue. Barcelona's October meeting will show which solutions are ready for demonstration in real production settings and where the food sector is directing its investment.
