Samsung has unveiled a smaller Galaxy SmartTag 3 for tracking belongings and pets. It reaches up to 60 metres and can run for 790 days in power saving mode.
South Korea is scheduled to receive the Galaxy SmartTag 3 on 7 October 2026. The United States will follow. Samsung Newsroom says the rollout will happen in stages.
The new tracker has a smaller body and works with Android and iOS. It can track keys, bags, luggage or pets. Battery life reaches 790 days in power saving mode.
Samsung has changed the search range too. Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding lets Compass View show the direction and distance of a tagged object from up to 60 metres away. That is three times farther than the previous generation. Users can start looking from a wider area outdoors.
In the United States, Samsung plans to sell the Galaxy SmartTag 3 for $29.99 individually or $99.99 for a four-pack from early November 2026.
Once the user gets closer, Ultra-Wideband technology improves the final search. In a large park, Compass View can first narrow the search area from a greater distance. It then guides the user more accurately toward the SmartTag 3.
The tracker is around 35 percent smaller by volume and 33 percent lighter than its predecessor. Samsung has used a more resistant aluminium finish and added IP67 certification. New case and keyring accessories help users attach it to everyday objects. One case has a strap for a pet collar.
The hardware changed.
The iOS support covers core location and sharing functions, but Galaxy Find Network still depends on nearby Samsung Galaxy devices. That means SmartTag 3 can be used with an iPhone without offering a fully equivalent version of the Apple AirTag network.
When the SmartTag 3 loses its direct connection, the Galaxy Find My Network can help locate it through more than 900 million Galaxy devices worldwide. Those devices act as location nodes. Samsung says the network now provides faster location updates than before. That can shorten the wait between losing an item and getting useful information about its location.
Location Notification sends alerts without repeated searches. Users can set an area such as their home. They then receive a notification when an object carrying the SmartTag 3 enters or leaves that area. The same function can monitor a pet wearing the tracker on its collar.
Location History shows where the SmartTag 3 has recently been. It records the tag's latest movements. Lost Mode uses NFC to display registered contact information or a short message when a compatible mobile device scans the tag. Notify When Left Behind alerts users when their phone loses its connection with an object carrying the tracker.
Samsung says the location data for these functions is encrypted. The tag may stay attached to personal belongings or pets for long periods. That makes data protection a practical concern, not just a technical detail.
Battery life reaches 550 days under standard use and 790 days in power saving mode. iOS support is the other major change. Families and households with different mobile systems can access the main tracking functions through SmartThings Find. They can also use Find Nearby on compatible devices.
Samsung Newsroom describes iOS compatibility as support for searching and sharing location data. The wider Galaxy Find Network still depends on Samsung Galaxy hardware.
The Galaxy SmartTag 3 will soon be available in Spain in white and black. Its smaller size, longer battery life, wider range and iOS support make it more useful than a basic Bluetooth tag. Samsung has focused on everyday tasks: attaching the tracker, finding it from farther away and keeping it active for months without frequent battery changes. The Verge and SamMobile also identify the reduced size, longer battery life, greater range and iPhone support as the model's main practical changes.
