Geely has unveiled the Galaxy Cruiser 700, a plug-in hybrid designed to take on rivals such as the BYD Fang Cheng Bao 5. The large, squared-off SUV has a tall cabin and short overhangs, with pronounced wheel arches. Its styling recalls off-road icons such as the Land Rover Defender and Ford Bronco. Muscular bumpers and dark trim reinforce its rugged look, while the upright stance signals its off-road intent.
The Galaxy Cruiser 700 uses Geely’s Thor EM-T hybrid system, which pairs a turbocharged petrol engine with electric motors. In the top four-wheel-lead configuration, a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine works with three electric motors to deliver a stated 830 kW, or about 1,113 horsepower. Geely claims this version can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.95 seconds. Reported peak wheel torque is about 1,330 N·m. The range also includes less powerful configurations, so these headline figures apply to the top variant, not every Cruiser 700.
The SUV’s 70 kWh lithium-ion battery is claimed to provide up to 350 kilometers of electric driving under Chinese testing standards. Reports also describe 6C charging, with a claimed charge time of roughly 10 minutes from 10% to 80%. Those figures position the Cruiser 700 as a plug-in hybrid built to combine large electric driving with the flexibility of a petrol engine.
Geely has also equipped the Cruiser 700 for challenging terrain. Its reported three-motor system can distribute torque across the wheels through electronically controlled locking functions, with a mechanical rear differential lock as part of the setup. Technical coverage says the rear lock can engage in about 200 milliseconds, while torque at a single wheel can reach a claimed 9,000 N·m. The SUV is also described as having an 800-millimeter wading depth. It offers crab-walk and tank-turn functions, as well as obstacle avoidance and run-flat driving capability.
Inside, the Galaxy Cruiser 700 blends luxury with digital technology. The cabin features a wide, horizontal dashboard dominated by a basic touchscreen for infotainment and navigation. Rows of physical buttons beneath the screen give drivers direct access to basic functions, including when they take the vehicle off-road.
The Cruiser 700’s arrival signals a new phase in competition among Chinese automakers for the electrified SUV market. Production is set to begin by the end of the year, with international launches planned soon after. The move comes as brands such as BYD expand aggressively.
