Great Wall Motor enters Spain with the Ora5, a compact car available in petrol, hybrid, and electric versions. The company aims to expand its lineup with SUVs and off-road models, challenging established brands and reshaping the local market.

Spanish drivers now have a new option on the market. Great Wall Motor has landed in Spain with the Ora5, a compact car that aims to shake up the segment. The company is betting on variety: buyers can pick petrol, hybrid, or fully electric versions. Prices are set to undercut most rivals.

The Ora5 measures 4.47 meters long. Inside, it feels roomy. The boot holds 442 liters. Seating works for four or five people. Ground clearance is 17.5 centimeters, making it practical for city and suburban roads. The cabin comes with a multifunction steering wheel, two digital screens, and voice controls. Drivers can also turn off some of the more intrusive safety aids. That’s a relief in heavy traffic.

Ora5 is the first publicly launched GWM vehicle in Spain, with the brand already establishing over 40 sales points nationwide.

Expansión

There are three engines to choose from. The petrol model uses a 1.5-liter engine with 160 horsepower. It goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds. The hybrid (HEV) pairs the same engine with electric power for a total of 223 horsepower. That version cuts the sprint to 7.7 seconds. The electric Ora5 puts out 204 horsepower. It claims 435 kilometers of range on the highway and up to 600 kilometers in the city. The battery is 58.3 kWh. With a high-power charger, it can go from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes.

Prices are aggressive. With incentives and financing, the petrol Ora5 starts at 19,950 euros. The hybrid costs 22,350 euros. The electric version is 23,950 euros. All come with a seven-year or 150,000-kilometer warranty. The electric gets an extra year for the battery. Two trims are available: Explore and Advance. Both offer features like a panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, and a nine-speaker sound system.

The Ora5 is just the start. Country Manager José Ignacio Olazábal says Great Wall Motor has bigger plans for Spain. By 2027, the lineup will include luxury SUVs and off-roaders. GWM already leads that segment in China. The brand’s network now covers 80% of Spain with fifty dealerships. The goal is clear: reach 3% of the private car market in two years. Fleet and rental sales are also in their sights.

Independent Spanish business media confirm that GWM's expansion plan includes launching seven models by early 2027, such as the Haval H7, Jolion Max, Tank 300, Tank 500, Poer P300, Poer P500, and Wey G9. This rapid rollout is part of GWM's strategy to secure a significant share in the highly competitive C-SUV segment.

Merca2

This approach puts GWM in direct competition with established European and Asian brands. Spanish buyers are showing more interest in electrified cars. The Ora5 arrives as new electric models hit the market. The Cupra Raval Endurance, for example, recently made headlines for its range and price aimed at local drivers.

Great Wall Motor is not just selling a single car. The company is making a calculated move into Spain’s changing car market. It is investing in local engineering and building a wide dealership network. The message is simple. GWM wants to become a regular sight on Spanish roads. For buyers, the Ora5 brings choice, tech, and value. More models are on the way. That could change what Spanish drivers expect from a new car.
