Madrid braces for a yellow alert as the State Meteorological Agency warns of afternoon storms and steady rain. Temperatures hold steady, but the capital faces a sudden shift and possible disruptions.

Storm clouds are building over Madrid. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has put the city and the Corredor del Henares under a yellow warning for rain and storms. Afternoon weather looks rough. AEMET's official bulletins confirm the alert covers the entire Comunidad de Madrid. There are two risk periods: one overnight, and another in the afternoon. Both could bring heavy downpours, hail, and strong winds.

Early morning brings only clouds. That changes after 6:00. Skies will darken. By afternoon, rain will pick up fast. AEMET expects the worst between midday and 18:00. Thunderstorms could sweep through, then slowly fade. The morning might offer a short break, but the afternoon will not. Local reports say the heaviest rain should start around 14:00 and last into the night. Some areas could see up to 20 mm of rain per hour.

In the Sierra de Madrid, rainfall rates reached up to 40 mm per hour and 60 mm over 12 hours during the same weather episode, indicating a level of intensity far above typical autumn showers.

Temperatures will barely move. Highs stay near 23°C. Lows will be close to 16°C, just like yesterday. Winds stay light and mostly from the east. That won't help clear the clouds. Regional emergency services urge caution. Sudden heavy rain, hail, and strong gusts could catch people off guard. Travel and outdoor plans may be risky.

Tuesday brings more trouble. The forecast calls for thick clouds and rain from early morning until midday. Skies might clear a bit later, but temperatures will drop. Highs fall to about 20°C. Lows settle near 14°C. Winds turn gentle and southwesterly. The mood stays unsettled. Several Spanish media outlets report that the north and mountain areas face even tougher conditions. The Sierra de Madrid is now under an orange alert. The rest of the region remains yellow.

Wednesday offers little relief. Expect more clouds and rain on and off. Temperatures will stick between 14°C and 20°C. Light westerly winds will blow. Umbrellas will be needed again.

The adverse weather is not limited to Madrid: during this period, several autonomous communities across Spain were also under warnings for heavy rain and storms, with Catalonia experiencing the highest danger levels. This highlights the widespread and significant nature of the meteorological episode affecting much of the country.

AEMET

This alert in Madrid comes as Spain faces wild weather in many regions. According to earlier reports, Catalonia and other areas have also been hit with severe rain warnings. The pattern is clear. Instability is the theme this season.

All forecasts may change as AEMET updates its data. For now, residents and commuters should expect wet afternoons and keep an eye on official updates. Be ready for sudden changes. Madrid faces a stretch of unsettled skies and unpredictable storms. The city will need to stay alert.
