A major retail park in Aranjuez is set to open in late 2026, bringing together Mercadona, Lidl, Decathlon and other brands. With 98% of space leased, over 350 jobs are expected, and a local job fair will connect residents with employers this September.
Mercadona, Lidl and Decathlon are among the headline names confirmed for the new La Montaña retail park in Aranjuez, which is now almost fully leased and on track to open in the final quarter of 2026. According to Alerce Real Estate, 98% of the 20,000 square metres of commercial space has already been rented, with only two central units still available. The developer began handing over premises to tenants in July, allowing brands to start fitting out their stores well ahead of launch.
The project, located on Calle Patrimonio Mundial in the La Montaña district, will bring together fifteen brands across food, sports, fashion, home, automotive, pets and toys. Alongside Mercadona and Lidl, the line-up includes Decathlon, Kiabi, Skechers, McDonald’s, Burger King, Izumo, JYSK, Müller, Action, Max Colchón, Norauto, Guaw and Juguettos. The two remaining units, measuring 210 and 150 square metres, are being marketed for uses such as food service or pharmacy, according to the developer.
Both Alerce and the Aranjuez City Council estimate that the retail park will generate more than 350 direct and indirect jobs across all operators. However, this figure reflects the total employment impact of the development, not confirmed vacancies at any single company. Recruitment will be staggered as each business prepares its premises, with most hiring processes expected to unfold over the coming months.
Job Fair Set for September
To connect local residents with these new opportunities, the City Council will host a job fair on 24 September at the Centro Cultural Isabel de Farnesio. Most of the park’s brands are expected to attend, presenting their business activities, outlining the profiles they seek, and collecting CVs for upcoming selection rounds. While the municipality has not yet published the full schedule or registration details, the event is designed to give Aranjuez residents early access to information and application channels. Those interested in working for Mercadona, for example, can also consult the company’s official recruitment portal.
It is important to note that the 350-job estimate includes both direct and indirect roles and does not guarantee immediate hiring or a set number of positions per brand. Specific contract types, requirements and distribution of roles have not yet been disclosed. The job fair will, however, offer a first look at the kinds of candidates companies are seeking ahead of the park’s opening.
Rapid Leasing and Regional Impact
Since January, commercial occupancy at La Montaña has jumped from just over 80% to 98%, with construction progressing steadily since works began in July 2025. The retail park’s catchment area covers more than 130,000 people, including Aranjuez and neighbouring towns, making it one of the largest new commercial offerings in southern Madrid. The mix of supermarkets, specialist retailers and restaurants is expected to concentrate a wide range of services in a single location. The arrival of McDonald’s at La Montaña follows a wave of new restaurant openings in the region, as seen with other major projects such as the Infinity mega mall in Valencia.
La Montaña’s developers are also targeting a “Very Good” BREEAM sustainability certification, reflecting a focus on energy efficiency, accessibility and environmental standards. While this certification has not yet been awarded, it remains a stated goal for the project.
With the handover of units now underway and nearly all space committed, the retail park’s timeline appears on track. The exact opening date will depend on the completion of construction and fit-out by each operator, but the final quarter of 2026 remains the target. Official updates can be found via the Aranjuez City Council and Alerce Real Estate.
