Mercedes-AMG has revealed its first fully electric GT Coupé with four doors, marking a turning point for the brand. The new model combines signature AMG design with advanced aerodynamics, cutting-edge tech and up to 1,169 hp.

The debut of the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé de 4 puertas marks a decisive shift for Affalterbach. For the first time, AMG’s flagship four-door arrives with a purely electric powertrain, signaling a new chapter for the brand’s performance ambitions. Despite the move to electric, the GT Coupé retains the unmistakable AMG identity, from its long, sculpted bonnet and pronounced powerdomes to its wide fenders and sleek glasshouse. The car sits four centimeters lower than its predecessor, even with a substantial battery beneath the floor.

Engineering for Efficiency

Mercedes-AMG has prioritized aerodynamics and efficiency in the new GT’s development. With a drag coefficient of just 0.22, it stands among the most streamlined vehicles in its class. Active vertical slats at the front—dubbed the Aerokinetics Airpanel—manage cooling airflow, while movable elements under the chassis generate extra downforce when needed. At the rear, a deployable diffuser and variable spoiler further enhance dynamic performance. Lighting design remains distinctly Mercedes, with star-shaped daytime running lights and six round taillights, optionally linked by an illuminated arc. Buyers can also opt for a backlit grille with a glowing Mercedes star.

The all-electric GT Coupé proves that performance and sustainability can coexist without compromise.

Interior and Technology

Inside, the GT Coupé blends AMG’s signature sportiness with high-end materials. Black surfaces are offset by carbon, matte metal, and diamond-stitched door panels. Optional Performance seats feature integrated headrests and aluminum inserts. The AMG steering wheel includes signature rotary controls for instant access to drive modes and performance settings. The cockpit is dominated by three displays: a 10.2-inch instrument cluster, a 14-inch central touchscreen, and a matching 14-inch passenger display, all running on MB.OS. The AMG Performance menu allows precise adjustment of chassis, aerodynamics, and even the car’s synthetic sound profile.

Above, buyers can choose between a panoramic Sky Control roof with variable lighting effects or a lightweight carbon roof. Despite its electric heart, the GT Coupé aims to deliver emotional engagement. In “AMG Force Sport+” mode, it simulates a V8-inspired soundtrack and manual gear changes via steering paddles, creating a surprisingly authentic combustion-engine feel. Three rotary dials on the center console let drivers fine-tune throttle response and traction behavior. Practicality remains: at 5.09 meters long and 1.96 meters wide, the GT offers generous space for four or even five occupants, with a 507-liter rear boot and an additional 62 liters up front—making it suitable for daily use.

Performance and Range

The new GT is built on the AMG.EA platform, first previewed with the GT XX concept. Its 800-volt battery, featuring direct-cooled cylindrical cells, draws on Formula 1 technology. Three axial-flux motors provide propulsion: one auxiliary unit at the front (engaged only when needed) and two compact motors at the rear axle. Two versions are offered: the GT 55 4Matic+ delivers up to 816 hp, while the GT 63 4Matic+ reaches a staggering 1,169 hp. Continuous output stands at 510 and 721 hp, respectively. With the optional Driver’s Package, both models can hit 300 km/h and sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in under three seconds. Standard rear-axle steering (up to six degrees) and active suspension with roll stabilization ensure sharp handling. Charging is equally advanced: the 106 kWh battery supports up to 600 kW, allowing a 10–80% top-up in just 11 minutes under ideal conditions. The GT 63 offers up to 696 km of range, while the GT 55 can reach 700 km.

Market Impact

Series production is set for summer 2026, with first deliveries expected by year’s end. Official pricing remains undisclosed, but the electric GT is positioned as a premium offering. The move places Mercedes-AMG in direct competition with other high-performance electric models, such as those compared in the recent German EV SUV showdown, highlighting the rapid evolution of the segment.

Context and Outlook

The arrival of the all-electric AMG GT Coupé de 4 puertas demonstrates that high performance and electric mobility are no longer mutually exclusive. While the production model doesn’t match the extreme figures of the original concept, Mercedes confirms the platform is ready for even greater power in the future. The GT’s blend of design, technology, and everyday usability sets a new benchmark for electric sports sedans. As the industry accelerates toward electrification, this model signals AMG’s intent to remain at the forefront of both innovation and driving excitement.
