Kent Nagano returns to Madrid with Sibelius and Beethoven. Veronika Eberle joins the ONE for a programme that also features Núria Giménez-Comas and her vision of a threatened future.
Kent Nagano will lead the Orquesta Nacional de España in a sharply contrasting programme on 25, 26 and 27 September. At Madrid's Auditorio Nacional de Música, he will pair two established masterpieces with a 2021 work by Núria Giménez-Comas. The concerts will be his second appearance in the Ciclo Sinfónico, just one week after he opened his tenure as the OCNE's director titular y artístico with Mahler's Sinfonía nº 2. The OCNE's official announcement and Nagano's website confirm the dates, programme and soloist.
The programme opens with Sibelius's Concierto para violín en Re menor op. 47. Veronika Eberle will play the solo part. She returns to the ONE after making her debut with the orchestra in 2014, performing Dvořák's Concierto para violín.
The three Madrid performances are scheduled for 25 and 26 September at 19:30, followed by a matinée on 27 September at 11:30 at the Auditorio Nacional de Música.
Eberle gives the opening work a clear focal point. Sibelius first composed the concerto in 1903 and revised it two years later. Nagano will then move into a very different sound world with Nostalgia of light. Yearning for… by Núria Giménez-Comas.
Giménez-Comas wrote the piece in 2021. It draws on W. B. Yeats's poem The Sorrow of Love. The starting point is what the composer has called
