Stellantis launches new Turbo 100 petrol engine: betting on trust after Puretech. Stellantis has unveiled the Turbo 100 engine to restore trust after widespread issues with Puretech. The new engine for Peugeot aims to fix previous weaknesses and offers extended warranties to customers.

Peugeot has officially unveiled the new Turbo 100 petrol engine—the first step by Stellantis to regain trust after the prolonged crisis with Puretech engines. The decision to launch the new unit was made against the backdrop of large-scale warranty claims: according to the company, of the five million Puretech engines produced, about 500,000 turned out to be problematic. Stellantis openly refers to this as a “quality issue” and admits that their response was not fast enough.

For Puretech owners, a special Check+ service has been launched, allowing users to obtain an extended warranty of up to 10 years or 180,000 km, subject to a number of conditions. The program applies to vehicles where servicing and repairs have been carried out in accordance with regulations, even if maintenance was performed outside the official dealership network, as long as repairs were done at Peugeot.

What has changed in the Turbo 100

The Turbo 100 is not just an upgraded Puretech, but essentially a new engine: according to program director Vincent Jacquier, 70% of its components have been redesigned from scratch. Only the architecture remains unchanged, to ensure compatibility with existing platforms. Key changes affect the turbocharging system, fuel injection, and internal components—these areas had triggered the highest number of complaints from Puretech owners.

Technically, the Turbo 100 is a three-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1,199 cm³, delivering 101 hp at 5,500 rpm and 205 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm. An important innovation is the variable-geometry turbocharger, which improves response at low revs, as well as a direct injection system with a pressure of 350 bar for cleaner combustion and reduced CO2 emissions. The engine operates on the Miller cycle, which increases fuel efficiency compared to the classic Otto cycle.

Another key difference is the abandonment of the timing belt in favor of a chain, which should reduce the risk of premature wear and lower oil consumption. Internal components have also been redesigned to increase durability and lower operating costs. According to the developers, the engine has undergone more than 30,000 hours of bench testing and three million kilometers of driving, including individual units that have covered 200,000 km.

Warranty and maintenance

The Turbo 100 comes with a three-year or 160,000 km warranty, while the service interval has been extended to 25,000 km or two years. This is intended to underscore the manufacturer's confidence in the reliability of the new unit and reduce concerns among buyers who still remember the mass complaints about Puretech.

The first cars with the Turbo 100 are already on sale: it debuted on the Peugeot 208 in March, and in May the engine appeared in the Peugeot 2008. The unit will soon be installed on other compact models in the group as well.

It is telling that there is currently a real technology race in the market for small-displacement engines: for example, Volkswagen recently introduced the electric ID. Polo, which is also aimed at the mass market and has already been announced for Spain — you can learn more about its features in the article about the return of the Polo name and the new focus on affordability.

Stellantis' bet on the Turbo 100 is not only an attempt to recover from reputational losses, but also to maintain its position in a segment where brand trust and practical reliability are decisive factors in consumer choice.
