State of Play Twitch Stream Taken Over by Destiny 3 Fans. During the State of Play presentation, Twitch viewers flooded the chat demanding a Destiny 3 announcement. The constant spam overshadowed other Sony reveals and highlighted players’ dissatisfaction with Bungie’s decisions.

The Sony PlayStation State of Play presentation, dedicated to new PS5 games, was marked by an unexpected conflict: the Twitch chat was completely overrun by fans demanding an announcement of Destiny 3. Throughout the broadcast, users ignored the official announcements and trailers, focusing solely on mass spamming the hashtag #WeWantDestiny3 along with a special emoji created by streamer Aztecross. This was a reaction to reports that Bungie does not plan to continue the Destiny series, despite the imminent end of support for Destiny 2.

While new projects—including Wolverine—were being shown on screen, the chat did not quiet down: Destiny 3 messages appeared every second, completely crowding out discussion of other games. This was especially noticeable during the announcement of the second season of Marathon—the very project from Bungie that fans are now boycotting, demanding a return of focus to Destiny. Some viewers openly stated that they would not play Marathon until there was news about a Destiny sequel.

The protest is rooted in dissatisfaction with Bungie's decision to abandon the previously promised summer expansion for Destiny 2 and to end support for the game as early as June. Against this backdrop, a petition appeared online calling on the studio to return to developing Destiny 3—it has already gathered over 330,000 signatures. Additionally, some players are planning to log en masse onto Destiny 2 servers on the day of the final update to express their protest.

The situation surrounding Destiny reflects growing tension between the studio Bungie and its audience. Destiny 2 was one of the most popular online games in recent years, and the Destiny series has become iconic within the looter-shooter genre. Marathon, on the other hand, is perceived by fans as an unwanted replacement. According to public sources, Bungie has been owned by Sony since 2022, and decisions regarding the franchise’s development are now made closely in conjunction with the PlayStation platform. In the coming weeks, attention to the actions of the studio and Sony is likely to intensify—especially amid the end of Destiny 2’s support and the lack of official plans for Destiny 3.
