Notably, the grants are retroactive to January 1, 2026, allowing buyers who have already purchased qualifying electrified vehicles in recent months to benefit, provided they meet the program’s requirements. Both new cars and nearly new vehicles—those registered within the past twelve months—are eligible, broadening the options for consumers seeking to upgrade to low-emission transport.
Applicants must be over 18, legally resident in Spain, and up to date with tax and social security obligations. The entire process is conducted online through the official government portal, where users must upload documents such as a detailed purchase invoice, vehicle registration from the Dirección General de Tráfico, the ITV inspection card, and a bank certificate confirming account ownership for payment.
For private buyers, grants can reach up to €4,500 for fully electric or plug-in hybrid cars that meet specific technical and price criteria. The program also covers other vehicle types, offering €5,000 for vans, €1,100 for zero-emission motorcycles, and €1,500 for quadricycles. To ensure transparency, the Ministry has published an official “Lista Blanca” catalog, listing all vehicles that strictly meet the subsidy requirements, including details on efficiency, price, and manufacturing origin.
One of the most significant changes with Auto+ is the move to a unified national platform, replacing the fragmented regional systems that previously caused delays and confusion. This centralization is designed to speed up both approval and payment, addressing long-standing complaints from buyers and dealers about slow disbursement of funds.
