A knife attack in the early hours left a 19-year-old man in critical condition in Madrid’s Tetuán district. It happened around 4 a.m. near Calle Miosotis, where Samur-Protección Civil medical teams responded. Paramedics found him with multiple stab wounds, including two to the left side of his chest. One was deep and life-threatening. He also had three cuts to his legs.
Medical staff stabilized him at the scene before transferring him to Hospital de La Paz for further treatment. The on-duty chief from Samur-Protección Civil said the chest wound was the most severe and required urgent intervention. Madrid’s municipal government continues to describe Samur-Protección Civil as a leading emergency service in Spain and Europe. Deputy Mayor and Security and Emergencies Delegate Inma Sanz made that characterization at a municipal emergency-services event in 2026.
The National Police are leading the investigation and working to establish how the assault happened and identify those responsible. Officers are gathering evidence and speaking with potential witnesses around Calle Miosotis. No arrests have been reported so far, and the motive has not been disclosed.
The attack has renewed attention on public safety in Madrid, though figures on other forms of violence do not measure knife assaults. For example, the Consejo General del Poder Judicial reported that Spanish courts registered 1,933,412 new cases and resolved 1,846,627 matters in the second quarter of 2026. Separately, the judicial council’s second-quarter 2026 gender-violence reporting recorded 50,106 women victims nationwide, while specialized judicial bodies in the Community of Madrid recorded 9,988 complaints and assisted 8,818 women. Those statistics concern gender-based violence, not youth street violence or knife attacks. They do not establish a trend in assaults such as the one in Tetuán.
Samur-Protección Civil is Madrid’s emergency medical and civil-protection service. Hospital Universitario La Paz, where the injured man was taken, is a major public hospital in the city. He remained in critical condition after the attack.
