Telecinco has scheduled 'Rueda la letra' for 19:00–20:00, sidestepping a direct clash with 'Pasapalabra'. The move is meant to boost evening viewership and strengthen the channel’s position.

Telecinco has adjusted its evening schedule, confirming that 'Rueda la letra' will air from 19:00 to 20:00. This timing avoids a direct competition with 'Pasapalabra', the ratings leader on Antena 3. Instead, the new show will serve as a lead-in for '¡Allá tú!'.

There had been speculation about whether Telecinco would risk launching a format so closely linked to 'El rosco' against the show that made it famous. The network has chosen to place 'Rueda la letra' earlier, aiming to attract viewers before the main ratings battle. Carlos Sobera will host, with Bulldog TV producing and Rafa Guardiola directing. Guardiola previously directed 'Pasapalabra' for over ten years.

The official premiere of 'Rueda la letra' is set for Monday, September 7, 2026, as confirmed by several reports on Telecinco's new schedule.

'Rueda la letra' launches with a €200,000 jackpot and two contestants—Fran González and Lilit Manukyan—who are both well known from their time on 'Pasapalabra'. Their participation signals Telecinco’s intent to bring experienced players to the new show. Celebrity guests for the first episodes include Miguel Ángel Muñoz, Samantha Vallejo-Nágera, Iván Sánchez, and Laura Sánchez.

The new afternoon lineup starts with 'El verano se mueve' at 15:55, followed by 'El diario de Jorge' at 17:55, then 'Rueda la letra' at 19:00, and '¡Allá tú!' with Juanra Bonet at 20:00. The schedule is designed to keep viewers tuned in throughout the evening, with each program leading into the next. Telecinco hopes this structure will help recover audience share in a time slot where it has struggled. According to Spanish media, this programming is part of Mediaset's broader effort to improve weekday ratings and avoid direct competition with established hits.

Choosing not to put 'Rueda la letra' up against 'Pasapalabra' is a clear acknowledgment of the latter’s dominance. Antena 3’s show, hosted by Roberto Leal, remains the top evening quiz, especially in its final round. Telecinco’s plan is to attract viewers earlier and keep them for '¡Allá tú!' rather than lose them at 20:00.

Telecinco has officially renamed the final round from 'El Rosco' to 'La Rueda', as the rights to the 'El Rosco' brand are held by ITV. This change is directly linked to ongoing legal and format disputes between the networks, highlighting the importance of intellectual property in Spanish television's competitive landscape.

By bringing back a format similar to 'El rosco'—now called 'La rueda'—Telecinco is also reconnecting with its own past. The network once aired 'Pasapalabra' before losing the rights to Antena 3. Now, with a familiar format and contestants, it hopes to win back viewers who remember the earlier version.

Programming battles like this have shaped Spanish TV before. As reported earlier, changes in scheduling and format have often shifted the balance of prime time, with networks adjusting to protect their strongest shows.

Telecinco’s afternoon changes are part of a larger effort. The network has faced falling ratings and has tried different formats over the summer to find a successful mix. The current lineup is the result of that process, with 'Rueda la letra' expected to both attract its own audience and provide a strong lead-in for '¡Allá tú!'.

It remains to be seen whether viewers will see 'Rueda la letra' as a real alternative or just a copy of 'Pasapalabra'. The similarities are obvious, but Telecinco’s programming choice shows it is not looking for a direct fight it is unlikely to win. Instead, the channel is focusing on a carefully planned schedule and familiar faces to slowly rebuild its evening audience. The real test will come at 19:00, when viewers decide if this new approach can change the channel’s fortunes.
