Illegal cargo with live snake from Malaga seized in Navarre. The Civil Guard discovered a live snake in a package sent from Malaga to Navarre. The shipment was arranged through a company lacking authorization to transport animals. Authorities have launched an investigation.
In Berriozar, Civil Guard officers uncovered an unusual case: a live snake was found in one of the parcels arriving from Malaga. According to the agency, it was a male of the species ‘Heterodonnasicus’ about 10 centimeters long. The transport was carried out via a postal company that does not have a license to transport live animals, and the contents of the shipment were concealed from the carrier.
The inspection began after UDAIFF (Unidad de Análisis e Investigación Fiscal y de Frontera) specialists noticed a suspicious package during routine checks. Upon opening it, they discovered a live reptile inside, and the shipping company was unaware of its real contents. Company representatives explained that the sender did not declare the presence of an animal in the documentation, so the necessary safety and temperature requirements were not observed.
As a result, Civil Guard officers recorded the violation and forwarded the case to the competent authorities. During the investigation, documents were collected confirming the purchase and transfer of the snake, as well as the shipping invoice. It was established that the parcel’s recipient was a resident of Pamplona, and the specimen had been bred in captivity in September 2025.
Cases of illegal transportation of animals through postal services in Spain are rare, but control over such shipments is tightening.
