A serious traffic accident late Saturday on the A-62 near Dueñas, toward Burgos, left three people seriously injured. The crash happened at kilometre 89, within the municipality of Dueñas, when a car traveling in the wrong direction collided with three passenger vehicles. Authorities closed the affected section and set up a temporary detour through the Lófer service station.
Castilla y León’s 112 emergency service alerted the Guardia Civil de Tráfico and Palencia’s provincial fire brigade. Dueñas local police and Sacyl medical teams also responded. Initial reports said two people were trapped in their vehicles and several others were injured. The Guardia Civil later confirmed that three people had sustained serious injuries in the crash.
The closure disrupted traffic heading toward Burgos, with drivers redirected via alternative routes. Wrong-way collisions are particularly hazardous: vehicles can approach at a high combined speed, leaving drivers little time to react. Figures attributed to Spain’s Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) show that the country recorded 1,775 road deaths in 2025, ten fewer than in 2024, and 103,591 crashes on urban and interurban roads. Hospital admissions after traffic crashes rose by 3% to 9,888 people, an increase of 327. The reported fatality rate was 36 per million inhabitants, compared with a European Union average of 43 per million. The A-62 is a major route connecting Valladolid and Burgos, used by local residents and long-distance travelers. The temporary diversion is expected to remain in place until the scene is cleared and the road is deemed safe to reopen.
