Residents are due to gather in Valencia on 11 and 12 December for a SEN course on neurodegenerative dementias. The programme includes clinical cases across both days.
The Ilustre Colegio Oficial de Médicos de Valencia is scheduled to host the course on 11 and 12 December. The Curso de Demencias Neurodegenerativas para residentes de Neurología de la SEN 2026 brings neurology residents together for workshops and sessions on dementia diagnosis and treatment.
The opening afternoon focuses on assessment. After a presentation by Dr. Joaquín Escudero Torrella of Consorcio Hospital General Universitario de Valencia, workshops begin on neuropsychological evaluation and biomarkers. Dra. Helena Vico Bondia and Dra. Sara Ballesta Martínez lead the assessment workshop. Dr. Javier Arranz and Dr. Javier Mallada Frechin cover biomarkers. Dr. Miquel Baquero Toledo moderates the block and speaks on the history of cognitive impairment.
Diagnosis takes centre stage next.
Friday evening’s sessions cover Alzheimer’s disease and dementia with Lewy bodies. Another session addresses Parkinson’s disease dementia, followed by frontotemporal dementia. Dr. M.ª Dolores Martínez Lozano moderates this part of the programme. Clinical cases presented by Dr. Javier Cabello Murgui close the teaching sessions, before questions and the official dinner at 21:30.
Saturday widens the diagnostic focus to progressive primary aphasia and vascular dementia. The programme also covers amyloid angiopathy. Organisers list LATE and PART among the other conditions, with normal pressure hydrocephalus also included. Dra. Inmaculada Abellán Miralles moderates the morning block.
A second clinical case session, led by Dra. Gloria González Caballero, follows. The programme then turns to current Alzheimer’s care and anti-amyloid antibodies. It also covers psychological and behavioural symptoms, alongside the legal and social aspects of dementia.
Dr. Pascual Sánchez Juan of Fundación CIEN in Madrid is due to speak on future treatment directions. Dr. Joaquín Escudero Torrella then closes the course. The schedule ends with a cocktail at 13:30 on Saturday.
