Almost €9,000 a Year: How Much Does Seguridad Social Pay for a Child with a Disability. In 2026, families with children with disabilities can count on significant payments from Seguridad Social. The amount of support depends on the child’s age and the degree of disability. In some cases, the sum reaches nearly €9,000 per year.

Families raising a child with a disability can expect significant financial support from Seguridad Social in 2026. The amount of payments depends directly on the child's age and the officially established degree of disability, and in some cases, also on the presence of dependency.

For children under 18 with a disability of 33% or more, an annual payment of €1,000 (€83.33 per month) is provided. If the child is already 18 and has a disability degree of at least 65%, the amount increases to €5,962.80 per year (€496.90 per month). The maximum support—€8,942.40 per year—is granted to families where the child has a 75% disability and officially recognized dependency.

Who is eligible for payments

Families with children with disabilities are entitled to these payments if the age and disability level requirements are met. For children under 18, a disability of 33% is sufficient; for adults, a minimum of 65% is required. In cases of severe disability (75%) and dependency, the amount is at its maximum. For the majority of categories, there is no family income threshold—payments are available regardless of earnings.

In addition to regular benefits, a one-off payment of €1,000 is provided at the birth or adoption of a child in a large or single-parent family, or if one of the parents has a disability of at least 65%. This amount is paid as a lump sum and is independent of other benefits.

Support for severe illnesses

For parents who are forced to reduce their working hours by at least half to care for a child with cancer or another serious illness, a separate support measure is in place. In this case, the payment is calculated individually—it equals 100% of the base for calculating the benefit, proportional to the reduction in working hours. Both biological and adoptive parents or guardians are eligible to receive this support.

This measure is designed to compensate for loss of income due to the need to care for a sick child, and enables families to maintain financial stability during a difficult time.

What you need to know

Social Security payments for a child with a disability are not subject to personal income tax and do not affect the family’s eligibility for other social benefits. To apply, you must provide a medical certificate indicating the degree of disability and, if necessary, documents confirming dependency.

According to Talent24h, these support measures remain relevant in 2026, allowing families to plan their budgets and rely on consistent government assistance.
