Rosalía’s new and fourth studio album, Lux, is rapidly climbing the charts and looks set to be the biggest success of her career. The Catalan singer caused a sensation on David Broncano’s show La Revuelta, and now she’s gearing up for a busy promo tour. The album is profound, intentionally non-commercial, and once again reflects the strong influence of her maternal grandmother, after whom she was named.
Rosalía’s grandmother’s presence was also felt on her previous album, Motomami, though musically it was very different. Rosalía Senior’s influence is evident in the younger Rosalía’s worldview and even in her approach to music. As a child, she watched films with Carmen Sevilla and Lola Flores together with her grandmother—although the real turning point that brought her into the music world was discovering Camarón de la Isla.
One song on Motomami features a voice message from her grandmother, which can be seen as her life credo and advice to her granddaughter. In it, she talks about the importance of faith in God and putting family above all else. According to her, these are the main pillars in such a tough and unpredictable profession. Although Rosalía herself was never baptized, these words, spoken in Catalan, had a deep impact on her.
Rosalía Aguilera Torres, the singer’s grandmother, has admitted that the path her granddaughter chose seems very difficult to her. “When I look at it, I think: what a complicated world Rosalía has entered,” she reflected, adding that her granddaughter’s happiness is her own happiness as well. Their bond is incredibly strong, and the singer herself has repeatedly called her grandmother her main source of inspiration. The spirituality that infuses the album ‘Lux’ is the brightest proof of that.
Meanwhile, Rauw Alejandro’s ex-girlfriend continues to explore herself not only in music. Soon, we’ll also see her as an actress in the third season of the hit series ‘Euphoria’, where she will work alongside Jacob Elordi and Zendaya. This move demonstrates that the artist isn’t afraid to venture into new territory.
The singer’s commercial success is backed by the coordinated efforts of her family. Rosalía’s parents, José Manuel Vila and Pilar Tobella, divorced in 2019. It was they who gave the world two strong, talented women: the singer herself and her older sister Pilar Vila, known as Pili to her family. Their mother, Pilar Tobella, manages her daughter’s finances, while her sister has become her stylist and art director. This family team has proven to be exceptionally successful, with seemingly limitless potential.
At this moment, ‘Lux’ has received rave reviews from both critics and the public. Some international publications have even said this album is a top contender for the year’s most important music release.
