The streaming platform Prime Video has announced a new documentary project that promises to be a major event. At the center of the story is Inspector Pelayo, already known to the public from the acclaimed show about the daily life of the elite G.E.O. unit. This time, the Spanish police veteran steps out of his usual role and heads to Colombia to personally test the limits of human endurance. He will work side by side with elite military units in real combat operations taking place in impenetrable jungles, on raging rivers, and in the mountains of Latin America.
Pelayo dedicated more than twenty years of his life to fighting drug trafficking as part of special operations teams. Now, his mission takes on an entirely new dimension. He sets out to trace the path of drugs to their very source, venturing into areas ruled by criminal syndicates where violence is a daily reality. The route will lead through the most dangerous parts of the country—from the troubled neighborhoods of Buenaventura to the rivers of the Pacific coast and the mountain ranges of Valle del Cauca. Alongside Colombian army soldiers, he will become part of the daily war against organized crime.
The project titled “Pelayo. Más allá del límite” is a three-part film shot in an immersive first-person narrative format. Pelayo himself will guide viewers through the darkest corners of drug trafficking, showing it not as a distant, exotic issue, but as a well-organized global system that turns brutality into a lucrative business. It’s a one-way journey into the heart of a silent war, where remaining on the sidelines is no longer an option. In this project, Pelayo shifts from mentor to investigator, seeking to understand the roots of the conflict from the front lines.
The documentary is produced by the Buendía Estudios team, known for their work on G.E.O. The project is directed by David Miralles, who also co-wrote the script with Javier Llanos. Pelayo Gayol, a native of Asturias, is an active inspector in the Spanish National Police, with more than twenty years of service in the Special Operations Group (GEO). He joined the police force in the 1990s and played a direct role in key operations against ETA terrorists, as well as in the assault on the Leganés apartment after the Madrid bombings of March 11. In 2015, he was promoted to inspector, graduating top of his class. His specialty is high-risk operations, including counter-terrorism missions, hostage rescues, and anti-drug trafficking efforts on land and at sea.
Pelayo gained widespread recognition for his role as the chief instructor for GEO candidates, where he was responsible for selecting, as well as physically and psychologically training new recruits for the elite unit. This aspect of his work was highlighted in a previous documentary series, where he was remembered for his leadership, discipline, and resilience. The world premiere of the new project is scheduled for 2026 and will be available in 195 countries for Prime Video subscribers.
