Eva Martín, whose name is firmly associated with the character of the formidable Marquise Cruz Esquerdo, is preparing a high-profile return to television. The actress will play the leading role in the upcoming police drama “Agatha y Lola,” produced by the Atresmedia media group. The project, which will first premiere on the Atresplayer platform and later, most likely, on the Antena 3 channel, was officially announced at the San Sebastián Film Festival. In this crime drama, Martín will team up with Mireia Oriol. Together, they will portray two inspectors with completely different personalities who are forced to become partners.
This role marks the actress’s first major project since her sensational departure from the popular historical telenovela “La Promesa” in March of this year. On the TVE network, she portrayed one of the most striking villains in modern Spanish television for more than two and a half years. Her departure came as a complete surprise to viewers. In a recent interview, Martín explained that after 550 episodes she needed a break for rest and her private life. She admitted that, despite her love for the role, as an actress she needed to move forward and seek new challenges.
Her character’s storyline in “La Promesa” ended with a dramatic twist—the marquise was accused of a crime she didn’t commit. This allowed the writers to seamlessly write her character out of the narrative, while the actress herself brought an important chapter of her career to a graceful close. Now, a completely different role awaits her. In “Agata y Lola,” an eight-episode series set in Galicia, she will play Lola—an impulsive and extroverted agent who has trouble following the rules. Her partner will be Agata, a brilliant police documentalist with autism spectrum disorder.
If Cruz Esquerdo embodied intrigue, power, and aristocratic darkness, this new character promises to reveal a more down-to-earth and relatable side of Martín’s talent. The creators of the series promise not just a detective story, but one with a deep human dimension, exploring the diversity of personalities. Eva Martín has more than two decades of experience in landmark projects, and her return to Atresmedia marks a new stage in her creative career. Her transformation from the formidable marquise to a rebellious inspector highlights her versatility and her drive for constant professional growth.
