La Oreja de Van Gogh and Amaya Montero Reunite After Nearly Two Decades

The Return of a Legend: Amaia Montero and La Oreja de Van Gogh Reunite After 18 Years

A long-awaited event has happened. The legendary band is back together. The musicians prepared this in secret. More details are coming soon.

Spain’s music scene is abuzz with its top story today: what fans have awaited for nearly twenty years has finally happened. The iconic pop group La Oreja de Van Gogh and its ‘golden voice,’ original lead singer Amaia Montero, have officially announced their reunion. The news, which has set social media ablaze, puts an end to months of rumors and speculation that have kept the nation on edge.

As it turns out, the reunion was prepared under strict secrecy. For nearly a year, the musicians stayed in their hometown of San Sebastián, which they themselves called “our hideaway.” Away from prying eyes and persistent paparazzi, they weren’t just reminiscing—they focused on the future: writing new songs, rehearsing, and rediscovering that special chemistry that once made them a phenomenon. In their statement, the members shared that when they looked at each other in the studio, they knew without saying a word—it was really happening.

Speculation about a possible comeback gradually intensified. The spark came with the departure of the previous lead singer, Leire Martínez, in autumn 2024. Rumors were further fueled by Amaia’s unexpected appearance at a Madrid concert by global star Karol G. Although the singer denied everything at the time, doubts persisted among fans. The final clue came with a careless remark made by Montero’s close friend, TV presenter Cayetana Guillén Cuervo, at a social event in April this year. Despite attempts to downplay the situation afterward, it became clear to many what was happening.

However, the reunion is overshadowed by one detail. Guitarist and one of the group’s founders, Pablo Benegas, will not participate in upcoming projects. According to the official statement, he has decided to temporarily step back to devote more time to his family and pursue new professional challenges while remaining part of the group. The other members — Álvaro Fuentes, Xabi San Martín, and Aritz Garde — will continue working with Amaia.

To demonstrate the seriousness of their intentions, the band has already presented the first result of their collaboration. A video titled “Inspiración” has appeared online. It’s a recording of a studio session made just a few days ago, on October 10. The musicians are seen playing while Amaia sings, and their smiles show — they are truly happy to be together again. It seems that time really was waiting for them where they left it eighteen years ago.
