Paz Padilla Honors Memory of Brother on First Anniversary of His Sudden Death

A Year of Unbearable Pain: Pas Padilla's Heartbreaking Letter About the Loss of Her Brother

The well-known presenter is going through a difficult time. She shared deeply personal feelings. Her words touched thousands of fans. What happened in her family?

The life of Spanish TV host Paz Padilla now resembles an emotional rollercoaster. On the one hand, there are the joyful preparations for the upcoming wedding of her daughter, Anna Ferrer—news they shared with delight not long ago. On the other, there is a painful anniversary: the passing of her brother, Luis. Exactly one year ago, he passed away. To mark this day, Paz Padilla decided to address her followers with a deeply personal and heartfelt message, accompanied by a video montage from the family archive, showing them together at various moments of their lives.

Luis, affectionately called “El Trompeta” by his loved ones, died suddenly at the age of 57. His passing was a devastating blow for the entire family, which had already endured many painful farewells in recent years—first with their parents, and later with Paz’s husband, Antonio. Luis was a prominent figure in the town of Zahara de los Atunes. There, he owned the beach bar “El Trompeta Beach”, which became a place of strength and fond memories for Paz, and where, as she says, his presence is still felt in an invisible way today.

Since that very day, Paz Padilla has tried to transform her pain into cherished memory and love. She has already described this approach to coping with loss in detail in her book and stage production, “El humor de mi vida.”

In her address, published on the first anniversary, Paz reflects on the relentless passage of time. She notes that although the calendar marks a year, in her heart her brother is as alive as ever. The actress finds it hard to believe that a whole year has passed, admitting that the wound in her heart still “remains open and shows no sign of healing.”

Padilla speaks about her grief with her characteristic composure, but does not hide the depth of the emptiness this loss has left. She shares the thought that the common belief in time’s healing power does not hold true, as “time doesn’t know what it’s like to lose a brother.” Despair is evident in her letter: she still searches for him “in the air, in the sea, in bursts of laughter,” and sometimes feels him so close it seems she is about to hear her name in his voice.

The anchor finds solace in believing that Luis has not left forever. She is convinced that he is simply nearby, but “in another form, freer, lighter.” With these words, she shows that her brother remains a constant support, especially in difficult moments. She recalls how, as children, they would run together in the rain, not caring about anything because, together, nothing scared them.

Her message concludes with a deep reflection on love, which is stronger than time and separation. She believes they are still together, “beyond hours, days, and silence,” because some feelings do not end but “simply change their place.”
