Few families in Spain can rival the Flores clan in talent and fame. All three children of the legendary Lola Flores and Antonio González “El Pescaílla” chose creative careers. Lolita, who made her debut with the hit “Amor, amor,” now shines on the theater stage. Rosario has been one of the leading stars of Spanish pop music for decades. And their brother, Antonio Flores, remains remembered as a rock icon and brilliant songwriter. The new documentary “Flores para Antonio,” set to premiere on November 28, promises to reveal little-known sides of his personality. The project, led by his daughter Alba Flores, is a true family confessional.
Few people know that Antonio Flores’s biography includes a period closely tied to football. As a child, he tried his hand in the youth team of Real Madrid alongside his cousin, Kike Sánchez Flores. However, Antonio soon realized that sports were not his calling and devoted himself entirely to music. Kike’s path, the son of Carmen Flores and footballer Isidro Flores, turned out differently. He became a prominent figure in Spanish football and later a successful coach. His playing career is impressive: a decade at Valencia, two years at Real Madrid, and retirement at Real Zaragoza in 1997.
The pillars of the family have always been sisters Lola and Carmen Flores. “La Faraona,” as Lola was known, was not just the head of the clan, but also the driving force who inspired her sister to be fearless and show the world her unique voice and artistry. Carmen achieved great acclaim in Argentina, winning the country’s most prestigious awards, and is now enjoying a well-deserved retirement surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Despite taking different paths in life, Antonio and Kike have always maintained a warm and close relationship. Kike Sánchez Flores is known for being private about his personal life, which makes his occasional revelations especially significant. He has been married twice. His first marriage, in 1992, was to his childhood sweetheart Nuria Santos, but it was short-lived and childless. Later, the footballer wed model Patricia Casanova, who gave birth to their four children: Pati, Kike, Jorge, and Pablo. The older children have already chosen careers in football, while the youngest works in marketing. Unfortunately, this marriage also ended in divorce.
The death of Antonio Flores, famous since childhood, was a devastating blow to his cousin. In one of his rare interviews, Kike admitted just how hard this loss hit him: “It was terrible, like a weight crashing down on me. It was incredibly difficult to take the field for the next match against Deportivo with that fresh wound in my heart. My mind was with my cousin, I couldn’t focus on anything else. I would give my entire career, every match, every success, just to have my cousin back.” The Flores family’s unity is beyond question. The recent wedding of Kike’s daughter Pati brought the whole family together again, demonstrating their unbreakable bond. The premiere of the film ‘Flores para Antonio’ will be another opportunity to get a deeper insight into this unique dynasty that has given Spain so much talent.
Incidentally, Antonio Flores was not just the son of legendary artists, but a significant figure in Spanish music in his own right. He is considered one of the pioneers of Spanish rock, seamlessly blending it with elements of flamenco and pop. His songs, such as “No dudaría” and “Siete vidas,” became anthems for an entire generation. The musician’s tragic death at the age of 33 in May 1995 shocked the entire country. He died of an overdose just two weeks after the death of his mother, the great Lola Flores, unable to cope with her loss.
