A heated debate has recently erupted in Spain surrounding TV host Marc Giró, who works at RTVE. The controversy stems from statements made by Vox party deputy Manuel Mariscal, who pledged to dismiss Giró if his political party comes to power. In addition, the politician sharply criticized other well-known national television personalities, accusing them of bias and manipulation.
Mariscal did not stop at criticism but escalated to threats, declaring that Vox’s only uncertainty was how they would enter the RTVE building—“with a chainsaw or a flamethrower.” Such remarks sparked widespread reaction and debate in the media.
Marc Giró, invited to the radio program «Julia en la Onda», commented on the situation. The show’s host, with a note of irony, recalled Mariscal’s statements and pointed out that Giró has become a target for far-right discontent. Giró himself noted that he has known Mariscal since their university days and was surprised by the change in his views. According to the TV host, the politician was previously open-minded and sociable, but now his rhetoric is puzzling.
Giró expressed concern that such threats are becoming part of the political agenda. He emphasized that these tactics are characteristic of authoritarian regimes, where violence is used as a tool of pressure. The host reminded listeners that history shows such systems lead to decline not only in the economy but also in the social sphere.
Despite harsh statements from Vox, Giró did not express fear of possible consequences. He noted that society has the tools to protect democratic values and freedom of speech. As an example, he cited recent protests and demonstrations that showed civil society’s ability to respond to challenges.
In conclusion, Giró stated that he is willing to engage in dialogue even with opponents holding opposing views, but believes that resorting to threats and attempts to change the rules by force is unacceptable. The situation surrounding RTVE and the statements from Vox representatives remains at the center of public attention in Spain.
