The final October draw of the Euromillones European lottery turned out to be exceptionally generous for participants from Spain. Fortune smiled on several players across the country, awarding them significant cash prizes while the jackpot rolled over to the next draw.
One of the most notable wins was recorded in Elche, Alicante province. The holder of the ticket registered in this picturesque city walked away with a second-tier prize of an impressive 405,711.36 euros. Elche, renowned for its cultural heritage and tourist appeal, can now also boast a major lottery winner.
But the streak of luck didn’t end there. Thanks to the additional game ‘El Millón’, held exclusively for Spanish tickets, another person became a millionaire. The winning code was registered in the municipality of Rianxo, located in the province of La Coruña. This port city, with its rich history and charming beaches, was where the dream of winning a million euros came true.
Since no participant anywhere in Europe matched the combination of five numbers and two stars, the main jackpot has grown once again. In the next draw, taking place on Tuesday, November 4, more than 84 million euros will be at stake. The winning numbers in Friday’s draw were 5, 14, 38, 43, and 45, with Lucky Stars 7 and 11. The winning ‘El Millón’ code was TVJ93046.
The story of this popular pan-European lottery began on February 13, 2004 in Paris. Initially, it was a joint initiative of lottery organizations from France, Spain, and the United Kingdom, aiming to create a massive common prize pool. Over time, other countries joined the project, and today Euromillones includes nine countries: Spain, France, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Ireland, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, and Luxembourg.
Taking part in the draw, held twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays, is quite simple. Players need to pick 5 main numbers from 1 to 50 and 2 additional numbers, known as “stars”, from 1 to 12. To win the top prize, you must match the entire combination, but there are a total of 13 prize categories available.
The minimum guaranteed jackpot is 17 million euros, but it can roll over in the absence of a winner, reaching astronomical amounts. Starting in 2024, the maximum prize cap has been set at 250 million euros.
A unique feature for players in Spain is the automatic entry into the additional game “El Millón”. Each ticket is assigned a unique alphanumeric code. In every draw, one of these codes is selected at random, and the owner is guaranteed to win one million euros. This prize is independent of the main draw results, significantly increasing the chances of a big win specifically in Spain.
