The National Lottery La Primitiva continues to offer hope to thousands of Spaniards who, week after week, try their luck in one of the country’s oldest draws. For some, it is a chance to fulfill a cherished dream, for others—a way to improve their family finances, and some simply enjoy the thrill of the game. Every Monday, Thursday, and Saturday, countless people imagine how six lucky numbers could forever change their financial situation.
During the draw held on Monday, October 20, an unexpected surprise came from the “Joker” code, which turned another resident of Spain into a millionaire. The winning ticket, which brought its holder exactly €1,000,000, was registered at lottery administration No. 1 in the municipality of Pozo Cañada, in the province of Albacete. This small town, known for its cultural traditions, is located at 22 Mayor Street. It is hard to imagine the emotions of someone who, in a town with just over two and a half thousand residents, suddenly acquired such a fortune overnight.
At the same time, there were no winners in either the Special Category (6 numbers + Reintegro) or the First Category (6 numbers) of the main draw. As a result, the accumulated prize pool for these categories will be combined, and at the next draw, a substantial sum of €20 million will be up for grabs. This gigantic jackpot will go to the sole participant who matches the First Category combination along with the Special Category.
In addition, luck also smiled on two other participants whose tickets matched the Second Category (5 numbers + bonus). These winning tickets were purchased at lottery office No.1 in Sant Antoni de Portmany in the Balearic Islands and at administration No.9 in the city of Santander in Cantabria. The winning combination for this draw consisted of the numbers 02, 08, 14, 24, 28, and 39. The bonus number was 43, and the Reintegro was 03. The Joker code that brought a million was 9 001 952.
La Primitiva is one of the oldest games of chance in the world, originating in Spain as far back as the 18th century. The first draw took place on December 10, 1763, during the reign of Carlos III, initiated by the Marquis de Esquilache, then Minister of Finance. The goal was simple: to fill the state coffers without introducing new taxes. Throughout its long history, the lottery was interrupted and changed format, but in its current form it was relaunched in 1985 and has since remained one of the key lottery events in Spain.
To participate in the draw, players must select 6 numbers from 1 to 49. Additionally, a bonus number (Complementario) and a Reintegro number are drawn at random. To win the top prize in the Special Category, you need to match not only all 6 main numbers but also the Reintegro. For an extra euro, players can activate the ‘Joker’ option, a separate game with a seven-digit number. Matching this number wins a fixed prize of one million euros.
