A high-profile trial has concluded in Barcelona, shaking not only Catalonia but the whole of Spain. A woman who had previously posed as a Mossos d’Esquadra police candidate has been found guilty of murdering her former partner in the town of Ripollet. She has been sentenced to 33 years and six months in prison and ordered to pay nearly 450,000 euros in compensation to the victim’s family.
The tragedy occurred in the spring of 2023. A man named Aleix was found dead in the apartment he shared with his former partner, with whom he had recently rekindled a relationship. Their involvement began back in 2021, but after their first argument and threats from the woman, they broke up. However, sometime later, the couple got back together, which, as it turned out, became a fatal mistake for Aleix.
The investigation found that, for several months before his death, the man was subjected to constant abuse and threats. His physical and psychological condition had significantly deteriorated: he became withdrawn, stopped communicating with friends and colleagues, and had to take sick leave from work due to numerous injuries. Doctors documented serious injuries to his head, ear, and arm, as well as a severe infection. In the weeks leading up to the tragedy, he even went outside completely covered up to hide the signs of beatings.
Forensic examination revealed that at the time of the attack, the man was extremely weakened and unable to defend himself. Numerous wounds were found on his body, including about twenty injuries to the head. The woman delivered a fatal stab to his heart while he was completely helpless. After the incident, she attempted to mislead emergency services by claiming her partner had committed suicide in order to avoid responsibility.
The court found the woman guilty not only of murder with particular cruelty, but also of systematic abuse, threats, and bodily harm. It was specifically noted that the deceased left behind a young son, who will now receive a significant portion of the compensation for moral damages. The victim’s parents and brothers will also receive payouts. The verdict emphasizes that the defendant showed no remorse and tried to hide her actions, which aggravated the severity of the crime.
