An alarming situation has been reported at a small nursing home for the elderly in La Algaba, near Seville: two dangerous viruses—COVID-19 and influenza A—have simultaneously infected both residents and staff. As a result of this outbreak, two elderly residents have died, and twenty more people contracted the viruses. Among those affected are both residents and employees of the facility.
Among those who suffered the most severe symptoms, six required hospitalization. At present, two remain in the hospital: one is battling the effects of influenza A, while the other is dealing with complications from hospital-acquired pneumonia. The rest have either been discharged or are receiving care within the facility.
Both patients who died were suffering from both infections at once—tests confirmed the simultaneous presence of influenza A and coronavirus. According to doctors, this combination proved fatal for their health. The remaining infected individuals are under constant medical supervision, and their condition is reported as stable.
In response to the situation, strict sanitary measures were immediately implemented at the facility. Staff have increased health monitoring for all residents, restricted visitors, and revised internal safety protocols. The aim is to prevent further spread of infection and to protect the most vulnerable.
Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation. Testing and health checks continue among everyone at the nursing home who was in contact with those infected. The outbreak serves as a reminder that, even years after the start of the pandemic, viruses still pose a serious threat to the elderly and vulnerable.
