In the early hours of Thursday, September 18, residents in some areas of Murcia and Granada were awakened by mild tremors. Seismologists recorded an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.2, its epicenter located just ten kilometers from the town of Bullas in the province of Murcia.
The earthquake’s focus was shallow, allowing vibrations to be felt in nearby towns. Notably, minor tremors were reported in Cehegín, Calasparra, and Caravaca de la Cruz. Despite the late hour, some residents said they felt the shaking; however, no significant structural damage or injuries have been reported.
The national seismological service has invited residents to fill out a special questionnaire to gather more information about how the earthquake was experienced. The survey asks what people were doing at the time of the tremors, whether they were awake or asleep, and how they reacted to the event. This information, together with seismographic data, helps specialists assess the impact more accurately and inform the public about potential risks.
Over the past week, two similar events have already been recorded in this area, and since the beginning of the month, the number of registered tremors has reached twenty-three. Last night’s earthquake was the most noticeable in the past six months, surpassing even the June episode, which also had a magnitude of 3.2.
