On Friday evening, residents of Badalona and several other cities in Catalonia were alarmed by an unexpected alert on their mobile phones. The Civil Protection emergency service sent out an Es Alert warning of approaching heavy rain. Not only residents of Badalona, but also those living in the municipalities of Vallès Oriental, Maresme, and Barcelonès received the messages.
Authorities noted that the weather front that arrived in Catalonia on Thursday night had shifted back over Badalona and surrounding areas. Particularly heavy rainfall was recorded in Canovelles, Granollers, Parets del Vallès, Montmeló, Montornès, and Martorelles. Residents of these areas received the emergency alerts on their mobile devices.
In addition, emergency alerts were sent to Sant Fost de Campsentelles, Montcada i Reixach, Tiana, Montgat, and Santa Coloma de Gramenet. Authorities urged residents to be especially cautious and follow safety precautions.
Since Friday, Catalonia has been under the special Inuncat plan, activated in response to flood threats and extreme weather events. Meteorologists forecast that the heavy rains could continue throughout the weekend, increasing the risk of flooding and road disruptions.
