Puerta del Sol in Madrid will once again become a magnet for motorsport fans. Regional authorities have allocated €121,000 to create a large-scale interactive zone dedicated to the upcoming Formula 1 Grand Prix, scheduled to take place in the Spanish capital in September 2026.
A precise, 50-meter replica of the circuit will be set up in the square, where anyone can test their skills at the wheel of radio-controlled cars via a special simulator. This unique installation will operate from October 17 to 19, giving residents and visitors a chance to explore the future race course and experience the atmosphere of major motorsport.
The fan zone will be organized by Andtonic Studios. As part of the project, the regional authorities will become an official sponsor, with their logos visible throughout the event. Despite previous promises not to use public funds for the Formula 1 stage, a significant sum was nevertheless allocated to promote the event, explained as an effort to boost the city’s prestige and draw attention to the return of racing after more than forty years.
According to organizers’ estimates, the fan zone will attract more than 20,000 visitors, which could bring nearly 1.2 million euros to the city’s economy. Over 40 accredited media outlets are expected to cover the event, with broadcasts and reports reaching 130 countries, generating additional benefits for Madrid’s image. In just the first few days of ticket sales for the Grand Prix itself, which began on September 23, more than 45,000 tickets have already been sold for a total of about 25 million euros.
The future racetrack, named Madring, will stretch for 5.4 kilometers and feature 22 turns around the Ifema exhibition center and surrounding areas in the Valdebebas district. The race in Madrid will take place in parallel with the Montmeló stage in the first year, while the fate of Barcelona’s contract, which expires in 2026, is decided.
