Jewelry heist ring in Spain busted after 27 bold robberies

Six arrested following string of robberies across multiple regions

Spanish police have detained a group linked to 27 jewelry store robberies in five months. Losses are estimated at one million euros. The investigation uncovered a sophisticated scheme for selling the stolen goods.

A large-scale operation by Spanish law enforcement has led to the arrest of a group suspected of a series of daring jewelry store robberies. In a short period, the criminals inflicted significant losses on store owners and the luxury market, raising concerns among businesspeople and increasing attention to shop security across the country. According to El Pais, these were carefully orchestrated actions that affected several regions at once.

Coordinated actions

As a result of joint efforts by the Guardia Civil and Mossos d’Esquadra, six people aged 27 to 60 have been detained. Four of them are already in custody. Investigation revealed that the group operated from November 2025 to March 2026, targeting jewelry stores in the provinces of Castellón, Toledo, Teruel, Tarragona, Madrid, and Almería. The perpetrators used powerful cars to ram through storefronts and enter stores, then quickly escaped the scene with valuable jewelry and expensive watches.

The group was organized with clear role distribution: some conducted reconnaissance and chose targets, others provided surveillance and cover, while the rest participated directly in the robberies. They used gloves and concealed their faces to mask their identities, and the cars were often stolen or had fake plates. The stolen jewelry was quickly sold through pawnshops, making it difficult to track and return the items to their owners.

Investigation and evidence

During the final stage of the operation, five searches were carried out in residential premises and one in a gold and jewelry pawn shop in Castellón, Madrid, and Toledo. As a result, items allegedly linked to the robberies, as well as documents and other materials relevant to the investigation, were seized. The total damage, including the value of the stolen goods, vehicles, and inflicted losses, is estimated at approximately one million euros.

The detainees have been charged with forming a criminal group, burglaries, theft, document forgery, and trafficking of stolen goods. The court has ordered four of them to remain in custody until the investigation is complete. As El Pais reports, the criminals operated with a high degree of coordination, which enabled them to carry out a series of raids in a short period and evade capture for several months.

Security and impact

Experts note that such crimes affect not only store owners but also the jewelry market as a whole. The growing number of robberies forces business owners to invest in additional security measures, while insurance companies are revising policy conditions for such establishments. According to russpain.com, these schemes for selling stolen goods through gold buying shops are becoming increasingly sophisticated, complicating police work and raising risks for businesses.

Recalling other high-profile cases, it is worth noting that a clandestine workshop was recently uncovered in Valencia, where dozens of undocumented workers without contracts were employed. This incident, along with the discovery of an illegal textile business in the outskirts of Valencia, also demonstrated the diversity and complexity of criminal schemes in Spain.

Context and trends

In recent years, Spain has seen a rise in organized criminal groups specializing in theft and violent robberies. Shops selling jewelry and luxury goods are frequent targets. In 2024 and 2025, similar incidents were recorded in Madrid and Barcelona, where criminals used vehicles to break into storefronts. Police report that such groups quickly adapt to changing circumstances, employ modern technology, and meticulously plan their actions, which requires law enforcement to continuously improve investigation methods and preventive measures.
